I would recommend the Codex Alera to anyone here, it blends political intrigue, military fantasy, and normal magical fantasy...and its based off of ancient Rome :D

She writes young adult fantasy novels. They are not childish, though.

She is a rather cool person, too.

I have met her at conventions.

OMG, Rousi, you'd love Tamora Pierce. <33 I promise you. They're an easy read, if you start with the Alanna stuff, but you can see her progression as she matures as a writer and with her audience. Gyaaahaahhaaa, love her. <3333

Also! I finished Bitten. I liked it a lot and I'm glad I've got like, a dozen more to go. Now I have to figure out what order they go in. XD
