So, dumb question, Law, are any of those free to start out with, still available, and friendly to computers that are just your four hundred dollar baby that plays DvDs really well?
I...yeah, there is a lack of modern multiplayer games that work like that. I don't really know of one other than AQ Worlds...TERA, a Mecha FPS called HAWKEN, and ArcheAge are free to play, but all can be hard on computers. :(

There were several earlier on - ones like Fallen Sword and Runescape, but I think most of those communities migrated off my awareness, died, or were picked up by other ones.

Runescape still exists but now they have an email thingy and if you hadn't been on your account for years you basically lost the account, if you're like me anyways and had been one of the players before they had the email thing going on. :/

I could never get into Runescape, myself.

And tired, Tiva. Don't quite know why - first somewhat relaxing day I've had in a while.

I got totally disgusted with Runescape and gave up on it. I actually played that before I found Dragon Fable, and threw myself into DF with relief at not dealing with being chased by pvpers who wouldn't take no for an answer. AQW was too crowded and had too many rude people. And I wanted to be left to play by myself for the most part. Especially after weeks of being bombarded with demands to join groups and people butting into my low level mob fights, and then finding myself alone and having a staring contest with a big boss on the one day no one wanted me in a group. I've tried a lot of other browser based free MMORPGS, but just never could stick with 'em.

I tried downloading Tera today! Six days to download and install? Was it for real?

Had a longish play session on Wizard101 today, including a boss fight and sharing some battles with Den. I had fun. 0_0

Rule of online MMO's - set up conversation with a group of friends you already know, and put all other conversation on a tab you never look at.

People of all ages, IQ's, and backgrounds play all kinds of games - having a platform/system to play online games is all that is required for people to have in common. So, people frequently don't agree, and are very spiteful with online activities. Best to try not to let it get to you.

Until they required payment for blocking, I did the same to comments on other things as well.

As a side note - if you want a singleplayer game that goes through a story, there are a ton of them out there, like Amea (A witch, an Eye cult, and Zombies in a pixelated 2 hour game), or Year Walk (based on the Christian-Pagan-Slavic superstition of year walking), or others more adventure related, or humor related.

Also, RPG-Maker games...

With Runescape I basically turned everything but whispers off, so I almost never got bothered. XD And then I'd go to area to grind where most people didn't go, like down into sewers and such and go into high level areas since people usually only went down there for quests and such.

I've never had more than one, or two at the most, friends that I could ask to play a game in all my life. LOL But yeah, I learned to shut the chat off. So yeah, what you said! :D One thing I really like about Wizard101 is the lack of chat window unless I want one, and the use of mostly canned chat. Still had a few kids pestering me to join them or friend them till I found how to shut it off. The game tends to shuffle single players heading into boss battles in with two or three others who want to do the battle, which is handy.

I've been kind of looking for an animated single player. I'd rather one without too much of a religious theme, and being able to save quest progress would be sweet. Story can be nice, but just seeing how strong a character can get is kind of neat to me too. That's why I play Dragon Tavern, which is a goofy text game.

I tried Fallen Sword today. Couldn't figure it out. *embarrassed sweatdrop*

With Runescape I wasn't talking about people talking to me. I was talking about the guy that chased my toon down attacking her despite her running like heck to get away. And it was another player character. I couldn't go to any of the other areas and do anything, because I was a free player. I did find that the NPCs were pretty rude to free players, though. lol I got more guff from them than from human comments on that game. Couldn't afford to subscribe, and years afterward I ran across someone who had loved the game and played for years, but ran into some hacker's back door on the Runescape shop and wound up losing everything, only to be told by the guys running the game that she was outta luck.

Oh, so single-player mechanics/level-up games I may be able to find a few.
It's just that the majority of games have developed issues - better graphics & gameplay translate to hotter computer processors and linear, done-to-death storylines. Multiplayer content takes away from Singleplayer. Free content either advertises, locks part of the game away, uses "pay to win", or uses "pay to customize"...

Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera...

Among text-based RPGs I've tried Renaissance Kingdoms for a bit (I likedAztec Kingdoms, by the same developers, better but parts of it were still in French LOL) and one called Improbable Island looks interesting. Kingdom of Loathing I've heard a lot about but I'm afraid to try because it's supposed to be dead addictive.
