And I totally hear ya on the Gaelic. I dated a guy from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia for about a year, and he spoke Scottish Gaelic fluently. I tried learning, but once we broke up, I dropped it. It's a rather difficult language to pick up if your first language is English and the only formal education in language is Latin based (for me, it was French). I would joke around and pronounce things with an American accent to help me remember how to spell them, such as "Thah gu derbah" instead of pronouncing it "Ha gu jerriff". >.< I can barely remember the proper way to make a toast now (the first thing I learned). I think it's (phonetically) "Slantcha vor" with a reply of "Air doe lancha". The Scottish is a bit different from Irish Gaelic. Which did you (or do you) study? ~Kat waves a paw in front of Faux, all Jedi-style~ These are not the *giggle* Hiya! *POUNCE* How you doing this fine, snowy night? ^_^ Hi! I'm Kat! Oh I never learned ir formally, just picked things up here and there. I have an oracle set with Celtic names on it and pronounciations. I went to Ireland for a bit and made notes while I was there. My family has a good amount of Celt in it and my mom comes from the Martimes so I pick up some stuff. A bunch of us have Celtic names though I think that's more a coincidence than anything. ;)
'Slainte' (I think) pronounced "slancha" means "good heath" or "heath." Generally gets used as a toast but I've also seen it written outside of Irish pharmacies or wellness centers. I think the snag is simply that it's not the same family as English. Its' Celtic, which includes different Gaelic dialects, Welsh, Manx, etc. Lean a language in one family and the rest become easier. ;)

Yeah, some languages don't make sense to me pronunciation-wise. I know Gaelic is one of them ^^" Tried to pronounce something in it, got confused.
Today is both my dad's birthday and my boyfriend's dad's birthday. They are exactly 3years apart. Mike's dad is the older one. What's a bummer is I won't get to see my dad much for his today, but I'll plan on spending Friday night with him over at his girlfriend's since Mike is working 8.30a-5pm on Friday. I'm most likely spending today (Monday) with the boyfriend. I was thinking of not because his dad has been in a miserable mood lately. So, I dunno. And it's his birthday today so I was thinking of just having my boyfriend go home after work instead of grab me so to avoid his dad's wrath. Especially since I've been there every day since Thursday for a little bit, and I spent Saturday night there. But, oh well. Mike and I have running around to do tomorrow. Though I might see about convincing him to go home just in case his dad is in a really miserable mood again and I wouldn't want to be in his war path. :/ ![]()

I have running around to do tomorrow as well! I have to take my bird to get his nails and wings clipped, and beak trimmed.
I have to drop off my sewing machine to get a tune-up. I should also get my doggie some toothpaste and a new brush. There was something else I had to do - and now I can't freaking remember what the devil it was?

I believe "Slainte" is spelled the same in Irish and Scottish, but the second word of the first part of the toast is different. In Scottish, it's "mor" (pronounced "vor" because it follows a vowel... how they get "v" from "m" is way beyond me *rolls eyes* LOL). The Scottish one is different because it was a code back during the time of Bonnie Prince Charlie. His supporters would say "vor" ("mor") to differentiate themselves from the Irish. *shrug* My bf was big time into his Scottish heritage... to the point of making fun of my Irish heritage (Clan Mears, bay-bee!).
I don't plan on trying to pick up any more languages, except possibly written Hebrew. I doubt I will ever try to learn to speak it. Hi! I'm Kat! I believe so. I haven't received my financial aid report from the school yet. But, I'm also not enrolled yet. I'm admitted though. Hopefully by May I'll know (I'm hoping by May I get to register for classes)
It's a bit of a touchy subject of financial aid this year since I am starting grad school. And in America, they punish those going further than a Bachelor's it seems. ![]()

And, when did you get a featherbaby? I knew about the furrbaby... but this is the first I've heard about a featherbaby. What kind of bird? Does he sing, or whistle, or talk? Or does he just squawk and make noises (I don't like those kinds of birds- too noisy). If we got a bird, within 5 minutes of getting it in the door, we'd have nothing but a few stray feathers left :/ And, oh yeah, I bet you could find tons of magick in Ireland. I've got direct Irish and Scots-Irish ancestry, and I used to read runes with pretty deadly accuracy. I don't practice magick anymore... something I never learned in the Baptist churches I grew up in is that the Bible specifically forbids the use of magick- in both the Old and New Testaments. Honestly, I only learned that in the last 2 years. I gave away my runes, tarot cards, and all my books from spells to the use of crystals in magick. I kept my crystals, though. I wont use them for magick, but they are very pretty (I've always had a thing for rocks). Serena, start slipping some St. John's Wart into your bf's dad's food or drink ^_~ And CONGRATS on getting into that grad program!! Any possibility of getting a fellowship to cover the cost? Hi! So you have talky birdies? And a Macaw? OH MAI! Those are not only absolutely gorgeous, but also very intelligent and live practically forever <3
As far as my beliefs go, right now that's exactly how I see them- as my beliefs, which I do not not feel the need nor the authority to shove down other people's throats. I don't think that's what God wants from me... it's not my place. Plus, I'm basically still in diapers when it comes to being a "Child in Christ Jesus". I don't even want to pretend that I know enough to even try to teach anyone else anything about the Bible. I'm always open to answer friendly questions as best I can- but again, I am an absolute beginner ^_^ As for magick... that was something I practiced since I was just a little kid (like, starting at age 7 or 8) until just a few years ago. I got into it pretty deep. I would never call myself a witch of any sort- but you don't have to be a witch, wizard, warlock, sorceress, etc. to practice real magick. I refuse to condemn ANYONE for anything they do except Satanic worship. Sorry, but that is one thing I do not tolerate. One of my college roommates was almost killed by something conjured by dark magicks, and I refuse to see anything positive in the worship of evil. Anything else is not mine to judge (it's not even mine to judge Satanism as a Christian- I don't tolerate simply as a person with a personal bias against it... even before I was baptized in the name of Christ). This is JMHO, but I think "Christians" who persecute others for beliefs other than their own aren't truly following the teachings of Christ. That's something that I don't ever think I'll see eye-to-eye on with my in-laws. They are vert judgemental, which I feel is wrong, and very off-putting. They say they live their lives according to the Word of God, but the Word plainly states that judgement belongs to God and God alone. My Dad-in-law is a great teacher, but he obviously still has much to learn, as well :3 TL;DR: It ain't my place to tell you that you can't practice magic or magick. That's between you and God ^_~ I won't judge you and hope you don't judge me C: *Squishy HUG!* Hi! I'm Kat!
