HBO's Game of Thrones | #1
Is anyone else watching this? While the books aren't my absolute favorite, this is an amazing adaptation of them so far. The actors are all spot-on, and the new scenes they've added all fit perfectly into the story. (Compare to *cough* Peter "I Can Improve On Tolkien" Jackson...)
The only thing that I don't like about it is all the sex, though it's present in the books. I just think it's a little too graphic and I feel uncomfortable watching the show with my dad. The scene in episode 2 seemed almost pornographic. And the (relatively tame) scene in episode 4 was over 5 minutes long ans wasn't even in the book. That's the only scene that's really annoyed me so far. Not to mention, the show's clearly strapped for time and there are other things they could include from the books if they cut down on the cheap titillation. So, what does everyone else think? I think overdone sex scenes comes with HBO territory, judging from some of the other shows I've seen (ie. the occasional episode of True Blood and the even less occasional episode of Hung.)

Yeah, that does seem to be the case. They like to flaunt what they can do over regular t.v. channels. I don't mind it that much for the series, since it is in the books, for the most part, but that scene in episode 4 I mentioned (which is more of a nude scene than a sex scene anyway) was just bad film-making and was only added, as far as I can see, to add a nude scene to the episode.
I remember reading an interview with the guy playing Khal Drogo where he was talking about how uncomfortable he was filming the sex scenes (particularly those in "the Dothraki fashion" *rolls eyes*) since he's apparently very close to Emilia Clarke (Daenarys). Anyway, compared to Camelot on Starz, which seems to be trading out all resemblance to any version of the myth I've ever heard in favor of adding pointless erotica, Game of Thrones is actually handling it fairly well. It at least *usually* reveals something about the characters. Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.

I know I would also not feel comfortable watching this with my father or any other member of my family. But yes the sex, violence and cursing seem to go with the HBO territory as Quiet said. Rome also contained a lot of that as well.
I didn't know they were books though I assumed it was. But this show is so graphically beautiful. I just finished episode 5 where Lady Stark goes to see her sister. That Castle was amazing I loved it! Inside and out. I haven't read the books like I mentioned I thought I might though. I think in tv series unlike movies they shouldn't cut as much out though that's just my thoughts I don't know anything about the making of moives and shows. What I wanted to talk about was what do you think about the queen's relationship with her twin brother? Remember I am only on episode 5 at the moment so please don't spoil anything for me that has yet to come. I think all the Queen's children are her brothers and that the child she lost was the only one that was the kings and that the old Kings Hand who died know about this and that's why he was killed.

Well, it's hard to discuss without spoiling, so it might be better to wait until you finish watching the series to delve into it like that. This really isn't a series you want to get spoiled.
To address some of the things, you said, though, I thought the Eyrie (Lysa Arryn's castle) was kind of unrealistic, both for the fact that it would be nearly impossible to build, and the fact that it's strategic value would be rather questionable, given that there's no possible way it could be self-sufficient, and if the Vale was taken, all its impressive defenses would be meaningless, since the castle would be starved out very quickly. And they actually adapted the books very well. They only really cut out little things that you don't really miss, and they added a whole lot of scenes that really flesh out the characters and fit perfectly into the storyline. As for your other point, I won't say too much, but I'll just note: it's more complicated than you think. No matter what, it's more complicated than you think. :p The details of Jon Arryn's death don't get fully revealed until much later in the series. It's a mystery that keeps building all throughout the story. What you have so far is only a piece of the puzzle. Is this show finished or are they or will they be making more episodes?
there are a lot of movies, shows, games and so on have castles that would be impossible to build or if they were built you think they would just fall down. That's the best part of fantasy. My least favorite part of this show is they seem to kill animals every few episodes first the poor wolf (I cried) then the Mountain shopped off his poor horse's head. T_T I hate seeing animals die.

Season 1 is over, they're filming season 2 now. We'll see how many seasons they get to. There's 5 books so far, supposedly there will be 7 total, but George R. R. Martin is the slowest writer ever, and he's nearly 70 years old, so, yeah. :|
And, yeah, I agree about castles, it's just... Game of Thrones is supposed to be realistic. :p And, honestly, I think all of the violence in the show is over the top. Ser Hugh's death at the tournament when he jousted with Gregor was just disgusting. There was no need for... what was it, five gurgles of blood up close? Oh, and if you don't like animal death scenes... watch out for the first scene of episode 7. :| Might want to skip that one if it bothers you that much. Actually... each book apparently ends with a bigger cliffhanger than the last. A lot of people were upset with book 5's ending (which just came out) since it was apparently a really cheap hook to try and get you to buy the next book... which may very well never be written. :|
I haven't read past book 3, though I have the other two waiting on my shelf. I'm not really in any hurry to ready them, though. :p Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.

Well then if they are cliffhangers that old man can't die until he finishes them.
That annoying little twirp finally got what was coming to him what's hims name. Viserys one annoying blond boy down one to go. I hat that little prince who isn't really a prince if I think whats true is true. I just watched episode 6 where he goes to talk to Sansa I just wanted to throw him over the side of the balcony she was sitting on the entire scene! One last thing how does fighting prove you are innocent? what kinda trial is that?

It's based on the belief in real, over-watching gods who grant their favor to the side that is just. That's why they call it a "Trial by the Seven". The idea is that the outcome of the fight shows the will of the gods.

There wasn't any killing of animals in episode seven.
There was skinning of a moose which I don't mind. If they killed it for food I don't mind. I just hate when animals get killed out of cruelty or sport which is cruel. I figured that Dothraki people wouldn't take the throne until the king was stupid enough to try to kill her and her her people mad. *sigh*

It was actually a stag, not a moose. The stag is the sigil of House Baratheon, the king's house. See what they did there? :p

I see! very smart. They killed the king and showed him skinning the stag as symbolism.
I thought it was a dear (stag) but I couldn't remember my memory is that of a goldfish Dx

Also, remember in the beginning when they found the dead direwolf? It had been killed by a stag. Think about that. >_>
