Not... the wisest choice, if you're shopping on a budget... Sony overprices their stuff. They're not BAD hardware, but they cost way more than they ought to. Other brands will sell equivalent hardware for lower prices.
And if you need a laptop for SCHOOL (as opposed to gaming or professional audio or artwork) you should buy the absolute cheapest computer you can find because today's technology is so good that even the bargain-basement junk is good enough to do everything a student will need.

Ha, go Sony :) Always been a big fan of their laptops. Asus has some cheaper ones in the market too now.

As I mentioned two posts up, if you compare laptops with equivalent specs across brands, Sony is usually overpriced.
Asus I can agree with. | ||||

I was looking at a Vaio when I was laptop shopping. I was kinda trying to avoid buying a mac but finding a PC with the same battery life and weight, but the only one I could find was twice the price... needless to say I ended up with a mac and I love the thing. But it's not for everyone.

Well it's not so much the OS. I thought it'd be hard to get used to but it's easy. And there's a left click now which I'd been worried about, plus I can still use firefox. In all the essential ways, it's pretty similar. You can even get Microsoft for it still as well.
I more meant that it may not be what you need it for. Storage, gaming, work, etc. It's supposed to be good for graphics and such, though, but I for the life of me couldn't get photoshop on the damn thing x.x' The biggest pluses and what I needed it for was the portability and battery power. ~shrug~ But, whatever floats someones boat. XD I love my mac and macs, but I know it's not everyone's thing. Not one of those wackos that is like "RAWR MAC IS SO MUCH BETTER" >3< They bother me. 'Tis a picture of Tokyo I took. ^^ I'm a girl. With macs.. I can't get used to the ONE BIG BUTTON thing... I need my right and middle click >_>
I need them so much that I set my tablet pen to have right and middle click buttons =OS Lucid loves Duchess and takes her signature virginity. <3 Ashy refuses to share Duchess with anyone D:< Duchess is idol TRASH Feel free to bully me about it

._. We have right and left click, now... you just gotta set it up. The only difference is they aren't really separate buttons, it just depends on where you tap/push down. I like that it's one big touch thing honestly, gives my fingers more room, specially since you use double fingers to scroll. XD I've gotten so used to it that I have a hard time using any other laptop.

Wha, double fingers? I just move my index finger or middle to the scroll wheel and scroll. O_o Index for scroll up... Middle for scrolling down. Quite interesting now that i consciously think about it.
The ONE BIG BUTTON, doesn't work for me. Because it means that i most likely might -have- to rely on the keyboard to do certain things... or the awkward menu bar thing :S I sometimes like to go keyboard free, ya kno? I don't want to worry about precise clicking and setting stuff up.. aaah~ Lucid loves Duchess and takes her signature virginity. <3 Ashy refuses to share Duchess with anyone D:< Duchess is idol TRASH Feel free to bully me about it

It's two fingers to scroll on laptops, and clicking in the bottom-right corner of the trackpad is the right-click. On the desktop mice it's one finger to scroll, and the left and right sides of the mouse act as the left and right mouse buttons.
In other words, it acts EXACTLY as you would expect from a two-button mouse with a scroll wheel, except there's no physical break between the buttons. There are other right-click modes, too, that you can choose from, if you prefer: The one I'm using is that a two-fingered click is a right-click. Edit: Also, the scrolling is two-dimensional! Once you've started scrolling you can also scroll left and right as well as up and down.
