I just got the original Guild Wars about two months ago XD It was cheap as heck and it's all brand new for me.

Made a really hot mesmer with a goatee >.>

I was actually vaguely disappointed when I found out GW2 has races. I kinda like everyone being human in the first one.

I thought that the introduction of having the individual races, and the the story line that dictates your quest line was a great addition to the game.
And I can't change
Even if I tried
Even if I wanted to...
What a Doll: Pixel Shop
The [Honey] Comb: Hangout
...I can't change
Even if I try
Even if I wanted to

After seeing those creepy little gremlin-looking things I'm not sure I'd want to play a game where a bunch of those were running around

give me the willies

I don't know, everything I've read suggests that Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 are SO different, that they're only vaguely connected. Like, the connection via lore is really the only thing, and even that sounds a little stretched just based on how long has passed between games. So it sounds like there's no reason for me to feel drawn to GW2 as a GW fan. Maybe drawn to it because I think it sounds fun (I don't know enough about it to make that decision), but not BECAUSE it's Guild Wars, if that makes sense.

hey :D not sure if anyone from here is playing GW2 (since the last post was over a month ago)... but I'd just like to toss it out here that I have a guild on Henge of Denravi server and if anyone would like to take a (free) transfer out there I'd gladly have you in the guild :D

It's called "Earth Girls are Easy" [SYSC], and it's based on my love of cowboy bebop ^^;; Our guild emblem is a phoenix because, well, if you've seen Bebop you know why that's kind of neat. Also, phoenixes are cool.

Sorry if I'm necro-ing, I've been torn since I joined whether or not to necro this or start my own, and I finally decided that since I'm contributing something it might be kosher.

If anyone has any questions about the game feel free to post here or send me a message (like what it's like having your own loot drops and gathering nodes, spoiler: it's AWESOME).

Anyways, I'm usually on my ranger, Ocelette!

Ah! Thanks for the support Lestrade, haha! It was really eating me up ><

Well I heard they bridged the lore somewhat, but I barely played Guild Wars (original) before I picked GW2 up. I liked it, from what I played. I loved that you had an instance world all to yourself xD... GW2 you are playing with a ton of other people but there's little-to-no griefing that you'd expect, which is so amazing to me. Their whole stance is that we play together, not against eachother (except in wvwvw and pvp of course!).

There's a story quest that you can partake in, and there's also a story connected to the group dungeons featuring characters I guess they put in a book that was meant to be between GW1 and GW2. The two are separate, and you can get to max level and do whatever you want without having to complete either, which is really nice.

Arena Net pushes exploration so there are a lot of achievements for that. Jumping puzzles >.>;; ugh... get so frustrated with them sometimes... but at the end you really feel like you've accomplished something, which I haven't felt that way since FFXI (pre-abyssea).

Sorry if that was a long-winded reply ><!

GW2 is a work of art in every way.
Music, visuals, gameplay, system, community, writing/backstory/lore, everything.
The fairness alone is enough to make an entire gaming community become actual people instead of exploiting jerkwads. Every time I go to grab a jumping puzzle, for example, the people around actually help you. Every event, it's like.. instead of people screeching about how you're a bad player or whatever, if someone dies, people rush to help. If someone is having trouble, they help. People actually take the time to extend a helpful hand to those who don't even ask for it, and even PUGs are nice.
Who the hell ever sees that in games anymore? GW2 is a first for me.
I mean, this is my experience on the Fort Aspenwood server at least. I've never seen an idiot noob speaking "leetspeak" over map chat anywhere. That should be an achievement in itself.

The graphics too, holy shit.
They worked their artists to the bone in order to accommodate those who can't afford top of the line PCs to play, which is something NOBODY ELSE DOES. Who would've thought a game company would actually consider those who couldn't spend loads of money? To me, it makes me think maybe, just maybe, Arenanet actually has both confidence, and understanding. Plus not just the in-game graphics, but the cutscene paintings are beautiful.

Jeremy Soule. That's all I have to say about the music. Hnnng.

Also, for me coming from Tera, I was used to action-based gameplay. The fact that Arenanet allows the true action combat mod someone made makes the gameplay even more fluid and easier and more fun to play than originally as well, for me. I like the skill system and the weapons system and how they have all of this set up as well. The combinations are fun also, which makes things all the more detailed and interesting to me ( like when I'm in a mess of a crowd, some elementalist drops a ring of fire and my ranger is suddenly shooting flaming arrows because of it, inflicting even more burn damage; that's always fun xD )
The way the looting system is set makes everything so fair, that it has exploiters crying about how the game isn't fun.. because they can't exploit. Which is funny. Event participation is also handy ( my computer lags so it's nice when I can't get a hit on the champion, yet I still get the chest because I participated the best I could. )
Plus your level adjusts to the area; nothing is TOO easy. You can't be a lv80 killing everything in a lv3 area since your level is pulled down to match. ( your gear and traits are the only things that can make a big difference, but you can't one hit everything like that either. )
Lovelovelovelove the fairness. PvPing kill stealing exploiters can be butthurt alllll they want.

Hell, even when it comes to PvP... usually I'm one who stays as far away from PvPing as possible, but the WvWvW is actually pretty fun. Because it is fair and the majority of people aren't crybabies about it.

The lore makes me excited. For example, just seeing the ruins of the original Lions Arch under water in GW2 gives me a very nice eerie feeling. And the way that there are REASONS in the story as to why some areas of the map aren't open yet ( like Elona and Cantha, if I remember correctly. I didn't play the original, but I read a good bit ) is clever. Most developers are like "meh, it's not done yet" but GW2 is like "WELL because Orr rose out of the ocean, it caused a tidal wave and because of the hordes of dead risen, we can't get in contact with these areas, but we know they still are there because sailors keep washing up on shore" <<<< for those of us who like lore, and the eerie kind of feeling you get when playing, that is love, lol.

And the NPCs you meet especially during the story quests are developed so deeply, you get attached like reading a book.

I mean Tybalt. For those who've played past lv 40-60, you know what I mean. ; A ;''
Wedidn'tgettohavethatapplecider. Baw. ( Hopefully that's not a spoiler )

Anyway, yeah.
>__>
Iloveit. lol

Amoena: And you say YOU were long-winded. >___>;;

EDIT: For those who haven't had the chance to experience it firsthand... Here are some beautiful vistas ( cutscenes from the jumping puzzles that pan around to show you the amazing scenery ) with some equally beautiful music from the original GW:

55 Vistas from GW2

Meizicht, that's exactly how the game is for me too ^^! I haven't tried the active mod yet, and I'm not sure I will, but I have played TERA and if there was one thing I was impressed with (aside from my weird feelings staring at my childish bunny be-hind) was the active combat. As far as GW2 goes, I --love-- doing flips and backflips all over Cursed Shore >:D

As far as pick up groups go, I find that there are more nice people than there are nasty, but there are a few losers on there (of course that's to be expected). The other night I was in a dungeon run and we had trouble getting past this one part where like.. 50 mobs decide to come attack and never go back to their starting spots, and this girl is like "oh well i'm going out to a party, see ya" and leaves. We were at the last boss, too.
However, I was running this with people I knew: a friend from school, and two guys I met in another PUG the day before. We spent our free time after the failed dungeon run chasing eachother and the Charr making racist jokes at the humans v.v;; xD we had a blast at least :P!

The halloween event was -to die for- (heh heh). We three-manned the halloween dungeon, jumped up the clock tower jumping puzzle, and I spent way too much money on black lion keys >.>;; It was awesome, and I've never had such a fun time and have never been so immersed in gameplay/lore :O

Oh, I hate PVP too, but I -do- like wvwvw. The first time I did it (in september for the monthly), I absolutely hated it! I was cussing like a sailor (on leave). I skipped it in october and in november I tried it again with my friends and it was WAY more fun!! It's nice how they do wvwvw, like you can't hear people making fun of you when they kill you v.v (too many dodgeball horrors when I was a little loser in elementary school).

I lagged way too much to do the clock tower, unfortunately ( as well as ascent to madness instance, but I managed to do that and my PUG was very patient and understanding about it, so that really impressed me. One of them even stayed behind to lead me down to the chest since I couldn't get there without direction lol )
I did buy both costumes - I mean who can turn down a flaming plant demon riding on a broom - and a package of halloween minis. @ u @ I figured it would be kind of a waste to buy the keys because the drop rate for the skins were crazy low. xD
But I loved the halloween event too. I made so much money from the candy corn.. >__>

Lol I love Tera for the character style mostly ( I tend to play prettyboys, and I made the best Castanics - Hurr hurr - and favored the High elves - prettyyy ) and I just got so used to the true action gameplay that now anything else is too easy. xD
I kept saying before when I tried the Beta for GW2 ( though back then I couldn't play very well since it wasn't as optimized as it is now ) that if it played like Tera in basics, then it would be the perfect game. @__@ And it isssss.

Lol I'm on a pretty kickass server, so there was one day where a bunch of people came into Lions Arch, telling everyone that we had all the WvWvW maps so that was the time to go grab all the vistas and complete the mists. It was hilarious because Maguuma figured that since we had all the maps under our control that we'd get bored and leave. But no, when they got there, they were all rushed with hordes of Fort Aspenwood people trying to complete the mists. xDD
I remember following an army of like 30-50 people all running for about 10 Maguumas, rofl
Kept imagining all their "oh shit"s as they tried to invade. xDD

Which sort of brings me to another point about the community; instead of it seeming like childish "neener neener"s and taunting, it was more like actual competitive spirit. Yes, there were calling-outs and taunts, but nobody was taking it personally, and it felt all in good spirit. I mainly am used to communities from free to play games like Jade Dynsasty... and if you've ever played Jade Dynasty... ugh.
The things I could say.
It's a drastic difference; a very pleasant one. @__@

xD Sorry for the screenshots; I use visuals better than words a lot. Plus I like them. >__>
( Though my screens from GW2 aren't the best because my graphics card likes to invent dark boxes around things, since I can't boost it all the way. Mypoorprocessorwilldie. )

ahh I just bought a new graphics card (nvidia 550 *drool*) and my baby i3 processor (3.06 ghz) handles it like a dream on high settings. the graphics card is about 120-150$ and the processor was I think around 115$ when I bought it... not too bad. Ugh I'll stop now gushing about my PC, I built it myself and am over-proud xD!

But yes, the community is really good despite it being "buy to play" which is essentially free to play. Also, I love that you don't have to buy to win. I end up dumping 10$ a month anyways into gems just because I can. Oh but that's one of the best things -- you can just convert gold to gems. Awesome right? After the 60$ or so to buy the game you never have to spend money on it until they release full on expansion packs.

Are you going to do the Lost Shores event? I'm super excited for it, but like a lot of other people am worried about underwater fighting. At least I have a giant shark to help me o_o
