I should really invest in a actual tablet to use on the go to doodle.
and maybe actually pay money for my art programs and stop using gimp?

There's a lot you can do in GIMP and paint.net that you can also do in Photoshop. There are a few stuff Photoshop have that GIMP doesn't but for the most part, GIMP is a great substitute.
But if you are in an art program and pursuing digital art or graphic design, by all means go get photoshop xD

If you don't need to use text, Krita is an excellent free choice for digital art.
