Actually the real classic idea of zombies was based more around voodoo and such..

Why do you say 5-10 years? Sure they are reanimated, as most scientist say, but there can be no sure way of them actually dying. Of course, Zombies are close to humans, their instinct is to feed to survive. Yet, without food they'll grow hungry in starvation. But their system is slower then the average humans body. So if a human were to starve themselves, they have at least 20 to 75 days to live, depending on their body weight, dehydration, etc. If we say zombies are like humans, yet their bodies react slower than ours, wouldn't it be lesser then 5-10 years?

If we follow the 28 days scenario their infected starved after another 28 days without food.

If they do have even prolonged decomposition, it won't matter if skeletons continue to be animated or not, they'll be weakened enough from that and their own bumbling around to be taken care of easily. And if they do starve, that gives more than enough time for that to happen as well. 5-10 years will cover most possibilities, including the time to build up proper survival camps for the long term if there's no starvation or decomposition.
Plan for longer scenarios, not the nice, neat month. -tugs at the fence- ![]() ![]()

Is it really possible, you know, irl for a zombie apocalypse to happen?
Since viruses keep mutating or what not? I guess it is, knowing that some viruses could make people look like living dead... ever know about the deadly "Necrotizing Fascitis"? just...god. I'm not squeamish, but that made me sleepless for DAYS.

I live up north so during the winter they'd end up freezing, then it's just a matter of bashing them before they thaw out.

Northern areas would be an interesting scenario. Like you said, that would help, and surely the freezing and occasional refreezing process would help to destroy tissue. But then again, if they are subject to decomposition, it would slow that down, so while they'd be easier to deal with, you'd be dealing with them for longer. Especially if the cold slows their already slowed processes.

Ah yes, survival camps and such. You make good thoeries there, Gallagher. I like the way you think. ^.^ I haven't really have had a talk like this in a long time, usually people are "It's impossible, never going to happen, it's stupid." Though, it will possibly happen, just not in our generation or whatever, but people won't talk about it like the possibilities.
Keiko, virus to be this deadly, would have to shut down the body completely, then revive itself. I wondered about that too, since I live up north as well. Yet, you watch movies and such, they don't give away anything besides Canada being new haven. lol

Not really, we have winter, after winter, construction, and almost winter here for seasons.
So for the vast majority of the year they'd be frozen completely.. So depending on what time of the year they hit they will be somewhat easier to deal with and not be around as long.

For your area specifically, yes, but not all areas are like that, and you have to keep in mind things such as zombie migration and your own migration, if it should come to it. Your strongest plan should be for your own area, but you should also be prepared for if the need arises to go somewhere warmer or colder. What if the zombies born happen to do well in the cold? They certainly might not have issues with overcoming rigor, so.
The biggest mistake you can make is not putting thought into other scenarios. -starts digging under the fence- ![]() ![]()

I just think, it'll slow them down, especially with the snow falls we get, not even someone with powerful leg strength could get through a foot of snow. XD
Unless of course they start to climb and become crawlers, etc. But seeing how our bodies are in the winter time, even if we know it's cold and stay out a bit too long, we get frost bite and become numb. As for zombies, as we know have no feelings and their brains aren't meant to realize pain, just keep going for food, food of what moves. They have no common sense, no little person talking in their head telling them whats right or wrong, what's goo for them what's not.

-pours some concrete under the fence-
You do have a fair point but if worse came to worse I honestly don't know if I'd want to survive the zombie infestation... Really warm places would speed up their decay. Iron, I'd laugh if zombies were up in Nunavut and Labrador, if you want to commit suicide you just walk outside and breathe in during the night.

If decomposition is in play, then they would break down significantly faster, maybe in as few as 2 years instead of the 5. In contrast, heat wouldn't really delay them as much as snow and cold, so I'd put my bet on ones with more energy, so they'd be more dangerous while they do last. Most especially in areas with plenty of wildlife (though that goes for more than warm areas) as, if their starvation gets to a point where they hunt animals (a possibility which must be taken into account, too), the more game, the less you can count on waiting it out.
Another thing to take into account here is the effects the weather would have on human survival. What places would be better for the production of food, where would the temperature allow for more armor in case of direct contact, how would you cope to the extremes. A nice winter place takes on an entirely new meaning if there's no electricity or heat, and it's dangerous to go out for firewood regularly. ![]() ![]()

See, those place where we are close to, Zombies would then have to breathe. Yet, it is not know if they actually breathe or not? If they could survive without breathing? I think if anything that were to make a noise, they would then have to breathe, but zombies are difficult in that situation. If you were to shoot or stab someone in the chest and they come back as a zombie, yet their lungs are punctured, would they still be able to go on without breathing?
