I thought he had an opium addiciton? But as one of my old profs would say, opium was essentially the asprin of the time, among other drugs and such. I do remember reading a passage where Watson write about Holmes' habit of going on long walks into nasty parts of the city and lying for days at a time on his couch, and Watson says that he would have suspected Holmes of using drugs except that he didn't believe it possible given how he runs the rest of his life.

Benedict Cumberbatch, though I'm partial to Downey too.

The only story I recall that mentions opium is one where he's undercover in an opium den looking for a missing guy. If he did opium at all it isn't really brought up, unlike the morphine and cocaine.

And he smokes tobacco all the time, of course, but so does everyone else = )

Mines robert downing jr, he hit it on the nail. :x I have yet to see the second movie. I plan on watching elementary since I got it recorded to see how good it is. I hope it doesn't disappoint, I use to read sherlock holmes books constantly. :x

Tell me how it is. I don't have a good feeling about it but I suppose I could be wrong.

(I don't really like Lucy Liu as an actress which doesn't help...)

I heard Robert Downey's performance was more geared towards the young Sherlock Holmes. Is that accurate? I've seen parts of the first movie but not all of it.

There an older CSI episode that's rather interesting, based around a Sherlock Holmes fan club of sorts. Murder made to look like a suicide made to look like a murder. Only ever saw it once.

I'm currently up to date on elementary and I personally love it I feel like they did it right it's set in the modern us but they did keep sherlock being from europe. I still have yet to watch sherlock and the downey jr movies but they did the show well and keeps it to him being extremely smart and deductive. although I think i'd have to say my fave sherlock might be the one from the show sanctuary.

Jeremy Brett, definitely, but Benedict Cumberbatch isn't bad. I grew up watching these with my mother, and he just fits the role better than anyone else I've seen.

Me too!

I looked him (Brett) up a while ago on IMDB and found out that he was Freddy in My Fair Lady. THAT was a surprise! He sings! He sings really well. My Fair Lady came on the TV not long ago and I watched it trying to see if I could tell it was him. I find it because I'm so used to his Sherlock Holmes persona, I think.

Yeah, knowing his performance as Sherlock Holmes as I do, I'm having a hard time picturing Jeremy Brett singing. xD

Wow, you mean the old My Fair Lady with Audrey Hepburn?

Because Freddy is awesome and I was really happy when I found out that Eliza ends up with him in "Pygmalion" >.>

Benedict Cumberbatch is my Sherlock. I'm an American and I can't get into Elementary. Maybe it's cuz Watson is a girl, or maybe more is I was exposed to Sherlock first and it just seem Elementary is a knock off. Or maybe I find Benedict Cumberbatch hotter and the acting better... lol.

Well, Elementary was actually conceptualized before Sherlock was, which is kind of amusing. But neither of them are really original ideas.
