The IT Crowd is actually a funny-as-hell show, but 'Murrican's remade it..and it was god awful.

This seems to happen with almost every show, good examples being Skins, Being Human, Blackpool, and many others. :(

I'm not trying to imply that American television is bad, but clearly remaking shows aren't our specialty.

the british network has a lot more leeway then the American one. so the british network is alot more fun to watch. ^w^ just shows that Americans are boring

C'mon sis, Americans aren't boring....we just have a government that is a lot more regulatory than it should be.

And one thing to remember is that it is a bit of perspective. British humor is different than American....as well as to what they prefer....

The American version of anything that wasn't originally American made is always suckish, whether British TV shows or Japanese Anime. Either way, America should never have re-done it. I refuse to watch the American Being Human and the American Top Gear, they are just so much better in their original form...

As for TV personality, I feel as though American is now drawing for straws for new ideas, which is why they keep 'stealing' British TV shows...I also feel as though, yes most British humor is dry and most Americans won't find it funny, but if you're going to 'remake' a British TV show for and American audience, then don't change almost every-tiny-little-detail that some might find offensive, that's probably why people liked it to begin with!...

But that's just my opinion on the matter.

I will state the I personally like the American Being Human better than the British version. But otherwise, most times they are better in their original form (thank you Holly-weird).

Though on the whole I enjoy American TV more.

I don't really get the chance to watch British shows. The only one I am able to watch is Britain's Got Talent. Minus the judges, the show is exactly the same as America's Got Talent.

The only time I see British shows is on PBS where I live. Some of my favorite show they shown so far is Are you being served and Red dwarf. Plus I'm a huge Doctor Who fan and wanted to see the new doctor but sadly no.

I much prefer british comedy, as I'M British myself and understand all the jokes, and have an understanding of the type of humour they're aiming for. As for movies and shows that don't involve humour, i tend to watch mainly American shows.

I regards to America re-makes of British shows, i have yet to see one that is better, to me personally, in the US version.

If I have to decide. I would say I prefer British tv over American. I like British humour and they have a little bit more leeway than we do. We're very touchy here in the States. The Brits it seems are not afraid to push buttons.

Go check out "Monty Python's Meaning of Life" if you're curious about button pushing. There's a curious statement about that at the end of the film, but it's all amusing.

Mom and I are still hard core into out British mysteries. She has the three Midsomer Murders box sets, watches Lewis each moment she gets, and recently picked up a number of Miss Marple DVD's the library was getting rid of. The amusing thing now is that we starting to recognize many of the actors. We're still not good with names though, and will just calle them by the characters we know them by, such as "Phyllis" or "Crazy Preist." Crazy Priest appears in Monarch of the Glen and Phyllis (aka wino receptionist) appears in a couple episodes of Midsomer murders and one Miss Marple with Joan Hickson). We've also spotted "Daisy" and "Richard" from Keeping Up Appearances as well. ;)

It's still the same with episode names too. I actually went though the Midsomer boxed sets we have and 'translated' each episode name into something we knew about the show, so "Faithful Unto Death" became "Bunny Cakes" (a marijuana cupcake that Barnaby unknowingly eats in the show) and "The Green Man" becomes "Two Blades of Grass" (a line from the episode).

I like Red Dwarf though I haven't seen all of it. I wrote a short science fiction piece where the captain of the ship was a die hard Red Dwarf fan to where he got the tech geek to restore an ancient VCR so he could watch the show. Of course, I never said that outright in the story, just dropped hints here and there. ;) I jacked the canary metaphor I use from the episode when they are in some manner of prison and Lister signs them all up for some exploration team. I know about canaries in mines but as a metaphor it never occured to me until that particular episode.

I don't really watch Tv at all anymore, but I've only really watched is Dr. Who and I liked it. However I've seen that I watch more British people on Youtube then anyone else. (O .o)

Well, since I am currently living in Scotland (I am a citizen of Scotland by birth but have been raised up in America since my father is American), at first I really missed American tv but since I have been here, I have found quite a few british tv series I like to watch that we never got in America as well as got into one that had been shown in America when I was a kid.

I find it hard sometimes to understand the humor in british comedy since brits and scots use many of the words we are so use to saying casually as insults.. {like cow and mare.}

But have seeing certain US remakes of UK series, I do find the UK ones more better in the end.
