I have it.. and It failed me xD

I have like 2 learning books 2 dictionaires, A lot of downloaded stuff, kana cards *i just got and they are MUCH more effective to me* and other things..

I find that learning the writing system first (like learning ABCs) helps me a lot more then trying to remember words at first.

I learn a bit of the Higarana, then I make words out of them

like

あかい　＝akai = red

えこ = eki = station

I find it MUCH more effective xD

that and I now have my japanese coach that helps alot too

i personally agree with dk but i think that immersing yourself more in the language (ie talking with people) helps a lot as well.
i listen to dramas even tho i quite fail at listening xD
i have gotten a lot better.
but then again being in a classroom helps as well.
