Crohn's Disease or IBD anyone? | #1
Anyone else suffering from Crohn's Disease or another Irratable Bowel Syndrome (IBD)? I was diagnosed in 2008 and the inflammation was so bad I was in the hospital for week and on a liquid diet for a month.
I'm just curious if there are any others here on Trisphee who suffer from it. How do you cope? How often do you get Flare Ups? Has your IBD prevented you from working? How does it effect your family and loved ones? I'd love to find someone close to my age (26) to discuss Crohn's Disease and IBd with.

Well I dont have it myself but my mum does, and I am showing some symptoms but I just think thats diet related. And yes it really does affect our whole family because I have to cook separate meals for my mother most of the time :s

aw sorry you mum has it! My fiance's mom has Divertiticulitis. her intestines get infected a lot. i thank god i do not have that. i help her cook and clean a lot. i hope your symptoms are only dietary. it would suck if you and you mum both had it. my fiance may have what his mom has. we're quite worried about it.

my dad is a diabetic so i prepare meals for everyone(except mum)that adheres to his dietetic requirements. So in my case i guess its not a dietry thing its probably more of an indigestion thing ><

I was diagnosed when I was 16 years old, the youngest case my doctor had ever had. At the time, I was the third youngest to ever be diagnosed in my area - something like that. But that was years ago, so I guess not anymore.

I was told I have IBD. All the doctor told me was not to eat seeds. I usually don't have much trouble, except for knowing that I need to get home right after I eat out.

@ Faux Real: wow at 16? That must've been hard to deal with! You're very brave about it! Now I don't know much about Lupus but I know it's painful and that there are different types.
@Red Calypso: If your doctor told you only not to eat nuts then you don't have IBD which is Irratable Bowel DISEASE you more likely have Irratable Bowel SYNDROME they may sound the same but are VERY different. One is a disease that needs to be medicated and one is a recurring irritation where you must watch what you eat. I have to take 8 pills a day (2 years ago I was taking 22 pills a day!) I also can't be around anyone who is sick as I am on Immuno Suppresors. And if I overowrk myself or get too stressed I get sick for days afterwards. I was up last night for most of the night throwing up and going to the bathroom. IBS is a bit easier to cope with, but it is still rather painful.

You're right, it's syndrome, not disease. It's not so much painful as extremely inconvenient and if I'm not careful, damned embarrassing. Which is why I plan carefully before I go out to eat to make sure I can get right home.

yeah IBD is PAINFUL! I work for Petsmart in their Grooming Salon. I'm only part time but some days when a dog kicks me in the stomach... OMG it hurts! I'm on a low fiber diet at the moment and it sucks. I love Broccoli and salad! And I haven't had corn or popcorn in almost 5 years! i love corn dangit! Some times after eating it feels like there's a claw scraping through my intestine. I often have to pull over at a gas station to go to the bathroom. andat work I go at least twice in my 5 hour shift. Luckily the girls I work with ar sweet and help me out when I'm sick.

Ouch! I'm sorry you have such a painful disease, but now I'm very thankful I have the milder syndrome. Like you, I love broccoli and popcorn and I'd hate to have to give them up. *hugs* I hope someday they can find a cure for IBD!

I' just thankful that I don't take so many meds anymore! I'm down to 4 anti inflammatories a day 3 immuno suppressors and 1 multi vitamin. I used to take 12 anti inflammatories 8 steroids (prednisone) 6 immuno suppresors and 4 vitamins. It sucked! The steroids made me balloon up and gain almost 100 pounds! I'm still not down to my original weight of 135 but I'm finally down to 190 I wasso happy to be at that weight!

*hugs* I bet you can get there! Heheh, I remember a side effect from the time I had to take steroids: FACE HAIR! God, I was glad to get off those. I don't even remember now what the problem was that I had to take them for.

I hated being on medications that gave me facial hair. I look manly enough as it is and they wanted me to take a blood pressure medicine that fixed the blood pressure and gave me a beard. *um* HELL TO THE NO! Stupid doctors. Why is a 19 year old girl going to want to have a mustache. That is not even funny. Although, I probably would have had fun if I had joined a circus!
