When They Cry | #1 | ||
So, has anyone watched the "When They Cry" series - the games, the anime, or the novel adaptations?
Here is a place to talk. I am currently 10 episodes in. ...oh and Maria is cute if a tad one-note Lawtan: A chaotic dragoness with issues. __s oferode, isses sw mg. __ Science, horror, folklore, and cuteness incoming!

Well, I am largely liking the second series (Umineko) as it is somewhat more of a philosophical/psychological mystery with "magic" vs. "mundane"
The "When They Cry" series mainly has a theme of repeating a tragic event over and over, so the second series is like a mix of a chess game to prove "magic didn't do anything" and murder mystery akin to what we had in Trisphee on Halloween. It also has a "Meta-World" where those aware of the repetitions debate. The debate is still up in the air, though the rational guy is a dunce at times. (Really, you don't check to make sure all master keys are present, or for your praise of "flip the chessboard" you miss obvious changes of phrased givens) Have actually learned some tactics that are helpful for analysis of differing views. Things like the Devil's Proof, and ways to think from an opponent's point of view. Maria being a little one whose somewhat messed up mom has developed a love of the occult. Her mom when mad is the "Black Witch" taking over her mom, and her friends include an animated doll and the "Golden Witch" Sort of want to hug her. (Not sure if I should say more, as spoiler-esq) It's twisted and though I may at times want to see the villain's head roll from their "needless cruelty" factor, one has to say they are quite a talented villain. That, and death by falling cake does get a humor point. (And Shannon and Kanon are cool characters. Essentially servants who defy fate to a degree. Not that they succeed. Two against seven and all. But they still wind up determined/at peace, and that annoys the villain to no end. As for the first "When They Cry" (Higurashi)...a bit more brutal, and tragic to my understanding...the scenes are somewhat well-known...stabbing your throat repeatedly to avoid torture, a nail-ripping device, etc. I am less of a fan of that, so haven't seen as much of it. I understand it is a large mystery as well, though. Lawtan: A chaotic dragoness with issues. __s oferode, isses sw mg. __ Science, horror, folklore, and cuteness incoming!

Heh, I'm the opposite. Higurashi feels less like a proper puzzle to me.
Given, I sadly can't play either Visual Novel. ;~; Lawtan: A chaotic dragoness with issues. __s oferode, isses sw mg. __ Science, horror, folklore, and cuteness incoming!
