okies this is gonna sound like I'm pretending its not me by saying its a friend but truly its not me, but anyways here goes, my friend drinks, has mental issues and takes xanax, lately she's been popping the stuff like crazy whilst drinking. So far nothing bad has happened she just loosens out a bit and mellows down. But last night she told me she took 14 .25mg of xanax with wine, I'm wondering is that a lot? I've read up on mixing the two, I drink occasionally myself and wont mix if I'm needing my own xanax as I have bipolar and panic disorder.

so yeah any thoughts on this? how worried should I be?

This sounds a lot like your friend may be using this drug improperly and/or abusing it and/or alcohol. I suggest consulting more proper authorities about this, such as a doctor. A doctor will know what to do, not a website, and will hold to confidentiality, it's the law, they have to.

I hope others suggest the same, as this is a rather serious sounding issue.

We'll put it into perspective, taking 14 of anything is a problem. That's a week's worth if you take two daily, so alcohol or not, that's something to worry about. I would think alcohol would make it worse. Depends on the amount ingested, I suppose.

I work with substance abuse people. Medically I can only suggest to pose an intervention and to suggest they get some help. As a friend I would suggest they talk about it with you, express your concerns and worries. Be there for them, even if they get angry with you.

thanks all I wasn't sure how serious it is as it is a low dose but obviously taking that much makes it a lot higher. I'm on medication myself and drink occasionally but I know my limits. I only drink when I'm in the right frame of mind and so on.

I will certainly talk to her, try to get her help and be there for her, it concerns me as to why she's needing so much of it especially after reading up on the effects of mixing the two.

the thing is, 14 of anything is high, live sevvy said, but 14 of meds that increase it's effect when used with alcohol (which is why those bottles tell you not to take them with alcohol) is VERY BAD, she needs help hun, if at all possible, help her get some.
