Cheeky Monkey
Default Teacher most difficult.   #1
As some know, I am in a 20th Century Japan class with an old man for a teacher. I don't mind old people if they know what they're doing. For the past five classes he has been humiliating me in class. A few times it was because I didn't know the answer and flat out said I couldn't remember a thing of the book. He'd ask "Did you even bother to read?" and I answered truthfully that I had read it. The one day he asked if I tried taking notes; I have it doesn't work.

The class today was just overly upsetting. He humiliated me twice in one class. First was over emails. He had saved the files as a "27-file" which didn't open with anything. I told him and he belittled me in the email telling me "Go to DOCUMENTS and open it." I told him in the first email that it wouldn't open, save, or do a thing. The second email I told him I had. So he sent me the assignment page even though I told him I needed the paper on the midterm he said had the questions and how he wants the footnotes. I logged off the email by 9. Today he asked "Why didn't you respond promptly to my email? I responded promptly to you." Then about a half hour later, he was telling people to go to some page in the book. I didn't have the book with me, or really anything as I had worked 8-12, scarfed down a lunch and went to class; it had been left at home. When he saw I wasn't flipping through the book looking he called me specifically asking "Where is your book?" I told him I had left it home in the rush of trying to get to work. He just sighed and didn't call on me again but it felt like he was staring at me in a belittling glare.

What should I do? I thought of going to the dept head to file a complaint. We ended up talking about America. . . for over a half hour in the class.

Dont give a shit.
If all he does is belittle you, and you dont like it, dont give a shit about what he thinks about you. If he doesn't like your answers, or what you have to say, then just participate to the degree you need to and dont give a shit about what he says. That's how I've always handled that kind of stuff and trust me, not giving a shit about what others think does wonders. It got me the National Honor Society because all I cared about was doing my work. There's no real reason to file a compalint either, he's just doing what instructors do. Their role is to be hard on you. Only thing you can really complain about is if he sucks at doing the job.

Believe it or not, when a teacher is taking the time to single you out it's often a GOOD thing. Yes, it sucks that he's pointing out when things go wrong, but he's trying to motivate you, albeit in a less than pleasant way. It shows that he's paying attention to his students and is trying to help push you. And often times the older school teachers don't get that negative attention doesn't help, so take his attention and mentally remind yourself that he's just trying to help.
I've gone to look for myself, if I should return before I get back keep me here.

don't worry about it, along with it is good he is at least trying to work with you on it... for some reason the teacher I have for a class this year, I have to stand in line wait for him to answer everyone else's problems first then eventually he will get to mine then asks me a bunch of questions like you said for yours
well hope things get better, you just need to not worry about it, as well and just do what you can do

It sounds to me like you've simply got a teacher who believes you can do better and is singling you out in an attempt to make you do so. In these cases most teachers will make you embarrassed so that you will strive to do better and better, yes it sucks, and yes you may be unable to help it, but the only thing you can do at this moment is either talk to him in person and explain what is happening or ask him why he is doing it, or simply ignore it and go on with your day to day activities.

Demon of Obsession
Well, I understand that it is humiliating to be belittled in front of your whole class, but most of the teachers wouldn't give you a glance if they didn't care ^^;. Usually, when they humiliate you, they teach you a lesson or teaching you. Take in their advice sometimes, and if you do, they can't find a reason to belittle you. Or, be rebellious though it might turn out so well later on.

The teacher just wants you to try your best, like the others have said above, he may care about his students and just singles you out because maybe he believes you can strive to be a better student and be successful in the world. I've had teachers like that in my highschool days and yes it was embarrassing but it taught me to be more responsible and actually study the material so I don't look clueless next class session. I hope it goes well for you and all teachers are different, but don't feel like you are getting beat down by him, just don't give a shit and go on with your business as he will go on his.

The Illusionist
There is one of two reasons why he is doing this...

1. He is purposely acting like this so you can overcome him in a challenge to give you maturity, and responsibility. Ect. It's a tactic that some Teachers use.
(If that is the case I kinda ruined it.)

Or

2. He simply is an ass and you should just report to the principle, or someone of an higher authority. (school owner?)
