Ho! Miscreant!
Default Need help on roleplays   #1
I posted my own roleplay a while back, and no one joined it at all. I am wondering how can I get people interested to join my roleplay, and any tips would be appreciated.

(If anyone is wondering about my roleplay, there's a link to it in my signature.)

You and I should probably solve together, because I have that same problem. I am starting to think that this site just isnt group rp friendly yet or most people don't like to rp things other then the aftermath of the end of the world.

Okay, as a consumate RPer I'll let you in on at least the things that make RPs look iffy in my eyes. Feel free to take it with a grain of salt...

1)Plot
~~If you don't have a posted plot to start with it's hard to get an idea of what the point of the RP is. Yes, many a great rp is just shooting from the hip, but to get new people interested you need to present an idea that gets their imagination going.
~~If you do present an actual plot don't let the play just trudge along, do stuff to urge it down that 'path'. I've left a LOT of rps because I felt like I was dragging the plot along behind me like a dead horse.

2)Characters
~~If you're running the RP, or at least a cofounder, accept the fact that you might have to play some NPCs or play a character you might not be 100% comfortable with. This goes back to #1 and helping the plot along.
~~If you're joining an RP make a character that would actually JOIN the rp. I've seen so many 'anti-social/loner/emo/quiet' RP characters made and I always want to go 'but why would they even JOIN this??'. Don't make the other players fight to KEEP you in the game. Yes, you can play a loner, or an antisocial hermit, but give them a REASON to be in the group. And then PLAY like they have that motivation.
~~Ubermnensch characters are only good if you're doing a GOD campaign. Real 'people' have flaws, weaknesses; mary-sues and gary-stus just make it less fun to play with.

3)Posting/Posting order
~~While most people haaaaaaaaate posting order I find that it helps keep everyone 'in the loop'. Once an RP is three people there NEEDS to be an order for people to go in so that one person doesn't get left behind. If it's more than three, it's the only way to keep everyone on the same page and prevents 'god moding' characters.

4)RP Etiquette
~~Accept your fellow RPers feedback about a plot. You may have a GREAT idea, but if someone points out a flaw, roll with it. No one says you have to change the over all idea, but make sure that Mac truck won't fit through your plot hole again.

Uhm, that's all I can think of right now...those are usually all my major pet peeves...
I've not gone to look at your RP, so I can't give you specific tips right now, but I'll go look and see what feedback I can give you :)
I've gone to look for myself, if I should return before I get back keep me here.

See Fey fey, I personally prefer Rps that have a little plot and the characters work to come up with one. I think as long as it has a decent amount of conflict role plays should run smoothly. Though as it stands your roleplay seems to rely a lot on the characters that join.

yes and no, I like having a plot otherwise, like I said, it can feel like you're draggin the whole thing along. Now I'm not saying you have a step by step guide to get someplace, but I want to know that 'Hey we're rescuing a princess, there's ogres out there!' rather than wonder why the heck five paladins, two rangers and a dwarven minner is in a party. The characters that join can shape out the storyline, but a plot is necessary to get anyone to really care.
I've gone to look for myself, if I should return before I get back keep me here.

Lol I say little plot, not no plot. Like with my current rp the plot is an evil ink its taking over the land. Unfortunately people have stopped posting for now. I think another problem that I see and not just on this site is that there is no conflict. I admit I am not very good at being a bad guy completely evil on the Devil/Voldermort level. But I can be a decent antagonist.
