How do you decide? | #1 | |
Picture the scene. The manga section of your local bookstore. Naruto, Bleach, Deathnote and various other manga's flood the shelves. But inbetween are those little gems. How do you pick one?
Me? I tend to look at the story and the art. I seem to have a guilty pleasure for Shojo, but give me hawt pr0nz anyday and I am happy. I also like a good storyline with good art. I hate it when it's all sparkle-shine-unicorn-vomit. I also tend to lean towards artists that have a few mangas going. If they have done well in the past that might sway me. I also like larger books with more in them than the thinner volumes. You?

Well the first thinking when I choose a series in a manga or any kind of book is the title if it sound interesting or alluring such as: The Daughter of Eve sounds more interesting than Twilight for mangas I also look at the artwork, i'm not a fan of the shojo art looks so outdated and 90s to me (maybe that's why I'm so picky about yaoi) then the most important thing is the summary/plot of the story on wheter the back of the book or on the front flap of the cover if it sounds interesting and want to figure out what happened to the story.

I pay attention to the title first to see if it sounds familiar
A good number of my friends are hardcore otakus so I've heard of a lot of them Them I look at the cover art. It's usually the art that sucks me in.

Well in the book store I flip through it unless its porn, then I go and see if its still on manga fox and read it there. The ultimate silly test I have is if I am holding it by the time I leave the store then I want it. I did that with a comic called Ko ko be good the art is pretty the story is amusing and it was in my arms for 5 hours CX so I bought it.

If a tittle catches my eye, I'll look at the blurb first. I'm usualy very picky about what storys I like. The art just serves to tip the scales if I'm unsure weather to buy it or not.

(。◕‿◕。) First the title catches my eye and then I page through the book itself. I don't read it, I just read what the images are showing and see if that storyline is something that interests me. I hope everyone can understand what I mean. ╚═════════════════════════════════╝

and i don't really look at anything that i consider bad art. then the stories keeps me going but other times the story is so ridiculous it over comes the art and i just have to keep reading! > w >

The story and artwork are generally what I'm most concerned about.
With Borders closing it looks like I'll be reading a lot more online... & ordering things from Amazon. So upsetting. ♥

My friend orders them from B&N, and I go to cons and get manga there since it's cheaper than the books stores, manga is sold at our con for $7-$8 a book and on Sunday sale its $6-$7 a book (no tax), but it's those first comes first serves basis
