I am so sick and TIRED of living this shit storm that is my life. Honestly, it's like everything and anything that could go wrong, WILL go wrong. And this time, it's messing with the roof over my head.

So, let me start by saying this. I live in Canada, and I am on a Disability pension. From this, I get $750 a month. I also get another $220 a month from Canada Pension Plan because my mother was on CPP when she was alive. I get what is called a survivor's benefit. That means that I roughly get $970 a month to live with. From this money, I pay $450 rent, $130 cell phone bill [which is my cell phone and my dad's cell phone plan together], $120 cable/internet bill, and I would have to pay my hydro bill too if not for the fact that disability directly pays $80 to my hydro every month. But, even minus that. I pay $700 a month to live. That leaves me, roughly, with $270 for myself. Normally, that's all fine and dandy. But this is where the story gets shitty.

Back in February, CPP decided to stop payments to me, meaning I had $220 less a month. But, it just so happens that in February, I had a $350 hydro bill. This means that the $80 that auto-pays my hydro wasn't enough. I had to pay the difference. SO. I used the $750 a month I get from Disability to pay my rent, and I sent $200 to the hydro bill, assuming that my CPP could pay whatever other bills I had left no problem. And it wouldn't have been a problem, if the cheque had come in. But no. They cut it off because they needed ANOTHER FORM to prove I was a full time student. A form I had already sent in in September. Not only that, they were switching me from Child Benefactor to Survivor's Benefit. That takes 4-6 weeks. Needless to say, it is now almost May and I still haven't seen a dime from them.

Now, because of the debt I had to put myself in bill-wise in February, in March I had to pay the bills I couldn't pay in February [Cell, Cable/Internet, and even more Hydro]. This dipped into my rent money. So I borrowed money from my dad to be able to afford my rent. Fine. Great. But then came April. And I fell behind on bills AND rent. I still owe my landlord $150 for April's rent. This wouldn't be a problem... Except that the bank decided to take $200 off the $750 I got this month [STILL haven't gotten they money CPP owes me...] and because of this, I'm $70 short for my rent. And my landlord is "suggesting" I find somewhere else to live. Because of CPP constantly messing me up like this, I have been late for rent payment before. BUT I ALWAYS make sure my rent gets paid, even if it is late. But now that my landlord is oh so "kindly" making this "suggestion", I feel extremely victimized because of what CPP and the Bank are putting me through. I always make sure my landlord knows why I can't pay full rent at any given time, and I always make sure he knows when I can. I just don't know what to do, I'm too frustrated for this. My dad won't lend me the money and I don't have anyone else to borrow from...

Can anyone suggest anything I could/should say to my landlord? I have already told him that unless he evicts me [which legally, he can't, since there are no grounds for it], I will not be moving anywhere. But I fear it won't be enough... I'm pulling my hair out! UGH! Fml...

Well to, unfortunately, confirm you're fears, it's probably not. I think you should apologize to the landlord, because it sounds like you snapped at him or her in the process. It was the Government's fault for not giving you your handicapped funds to pay the rent anyhow, but that doesn't mean that your landlord isn't losing from this either. But either way, on the off chance that he or she does try to evict you however, I don't think you'll lose if you debate it out. You live in Canada, right?

I have apologized time and time again to him for what CPP does. I have also told CPP the trouble they are putting me through, but that doesn't rush them any more than ice rushes a snail. I know that he's on a shitty end of things too, but he should realize that even if I do pay my rent late sometimes because of things I can't control, doesn't mean he has the right to evict me. He hasn't evicted me yet, but his nice little "suggestion" was out of line, in my opinion. I know that if he does try, I could take him to court for it and possibly win, for the simple fact that I have proof that all these conditions are out of my control. I'm just really irritated that all of this is happening all at once, and that he just doesn't want to understand what I tell him. I explain EVERYTHING to him, going into great detail about things that are none of his business, to make sure he knows what's going on, why he isn't getting his money on time. I'm just so... GRR! D<

Aye, it is indeed frustrating to be out of control your finances only to be at the wrong end of the consequences. I still think that it wouldn't to apologize for snapping at him (if you actually did snap at him), even if he was being a dick. Unfortunately, the only thing that can be done is waiting. Even the landlord can see that even though you were short, it's less short than the month before and you'll be able to pay off all the rent soon enough.

Also, let me get this straight, are you telling me to move out? Unless you're evicting me, I don't plan on moving anywhere. I like it here. I haven't done anything to be evicted, not on purpose. When I'm late on rent payments or missing part of the payment, it's because of something that is OUT OF MY CONTROL. If you are TELLING me to move out because of something that is NOT my fault, I WILL fight back. I don't mean to be rude, but telling me to move out is out of line, considering I have caused NO problems in the building what so ever.

I think you can fight back so long as you have been paying. I know they can easily evict you if you're like three months behind, but that doesn't look like the case. I don't know what you could do, other than to keep documentation of everything that transpires for you. I wish you the best!

I am determined that you'll make it =) Everything will be alright. Start posting ads for babysitting or house cleaning if you have to. Whatever it takes to live. That is how determined I am and I'm sure you have what it takes.

@ Winter ;; I have all of my rent receipts ... somewhere. XD I have never been more than a few weeks late with rent, and never for more than half of the rent.

@ Ginger ;; My bipolar keeps me from being able to work with kids, and my weight/physical disabilities keep me from getting a labor job. But I do look in hopes to find jobs I can do... Economy sucks in my city. .w.
