Default Super Earth discovered.   #1

Article here.

They are calling it Super Earth, it is seven times bigger than Earth itself.
And it is possible that it may be able to support life there.
It is 44 light-years away.

I wonder if there's already life there.
Imagine if they found us and they are calling our planet a smaller version of their own and as interested in us as we are in their planet? LOL.

Anyways. Yup.
Cool news.

Thoughts?

Sweet!!! When can we start booking flights?! With the over crowding on this Earth, that one may be needed in the near future...

Ah, that. Saw that a few days ago. They also are developing the technology that, in a few years, may be able to let us travel at 10c...which means we -could- potentially get from Earth to HD in about four years.

I'd be getting there at exactly 62, too. xDD

Not sure if 44 light-year travel to super-Earth is worth aging ridiculously over for, though. ಠnಠ That'd be cool if there was, like, life on there. [/aliens.jpg]

Yeah but people are going to have to do that in order to start a life out there and to get humans over there besides if we do develop technology that enables us to travel there in less time then we can potentially have a world to colonize, if it is able to become colonized.

Star Trek style flight would be very cool...but anything that violates relativity is just a theory, at this point. I read about an interesting "warp drive" concept that is theoretically possible, but it requires more energy than the entire planet can produce to move something the size of a small car, I think.

That said, it would be entirely possible to get to that place in 4 years, if we had powerful enough propulsion (which we don't, currently).

...But Earth would see that as being more like 50 years. Relativity is fun.

Hell, 50 years isn't that long to wait for something like that. That's amazing if we can achieve something like that in such a short period of time. It just seems like a long time because of the current, average human lifespan.

That is an interesting discovery 83. I don't think I'd want to visit though unless they give us the full facts about what's going on in that planet...Like:

-The amount of actual gravity (I wouldn't want to be walking around with several times more weight to destroy my knees).
-What type of parasites and predators are already there (like dinosaur-sized, parasites that literally eat through your flesh, etc.)?
-What about virus and bacterial strains?
-Any particular areas with toxic plants/pollen?
-If there is already advanced life there, will they be friendly, will they shoot us down before landing, or will they want to dissect us or put us into zoos?
-What type of natural disasters can we expect to face (hailstones the size of a car, earthquakes that go 10+ on a regular basis, mega tsunamis, etc.)?
-Can we survive in an environment with a different radiation level than ours (is the radiation from their sun/star higher than ours, and if so what type of impact will that cause on a human)?

I think a space station is more feasible since it's a controlled environment created to be ideal for living conditions. I wouldn't mind having a Star Trek styled version for one 83

It's 44 light years away but takes 42 years to get to? I think there's a typo in there, unless we've figured out a way to go faster than the speed of light.

But wow, this news is very interesting 0.0 I know my astronomy professor is going to want to talk about this next class XD

I love the thought of their being life like ours somewhere else in the universe. That way, if the day comes where we need to flee the Earth and we have the technology to do it, we could go crash at their place.
I really need to stop disappearing from this site.
It feels like I don't know anybody anymore.

The Judged
What I want to know is this:

If this earth is able to support life, will there be any drastic changes to the way humans are able to survive or will it be just the same thing if we never left earth to live on the "super earth" in the first place?
