if he wrote in the book then the other would know he had been reading it. he stood up instead and went to his side of the room, he tore out a bit of paper and wrote upon it the ending that should be. he folded it twice and stuck it near the end. he hoped it would not be noticed too quickly, or worse, lose it. he placed it near the back of the book
