The Crane Game gives you free items. You'll get 3 tokens a day so use them wisely.
Monthly items are replaced the 1st of every month and cost 20 runes
RIGs (Random Item Gen) have 5 items in them and are replaced every other month on the 15th. The new RIG is out on Dec 15th. They cost 10 runes each. You'll only get one item from it. Both Monthlies/RIGs are in the Archaic Antiquities.
Event items are limited time only items. They can be bought with the event currency for that event, and after the event is over they will leave the shop.
Yearly Items are replaced once a year and cost 50 runes each. Found in the Yearly Shop. The New Yearlies will be coming out on the 20th of Dec.
Token Shop items use Anka tokens and you can get those by completing forum achievements. Updates and Prices vary. Found in the Token Shop

Yep. The only items you'll have in your inventory are the basic skins for both males and females.

You joined during an event. You can get "Lost Souls" by posting and paying the game Soul Reaper. Lost souls are the Special Event Currency.

There are free items in some of the shops in which you can use to clothe your avi via the "Avatar" tab at the top of the forum.
