'I FORBID IT! his aunt screamed. she had come back to see the boy moping around, it was not normal but then at the time it didn't seem like such a big deal, this morning however when he had gotten back from his gathering task he had told her he was going to sea. she knew who was to blame and now the earlier strangeness of both her nephew and that dirty pirate made sense, they were planning to sneak the boy on board. she knew they had no cook and did not hire one while they were in dock. she was seething. she did not hit the boy though she badly wanted to, he was leaving her as everyone had left her, her brother, her husband, noone left but this child, this look-alike who teased her daily with the face of her long dead brother looking through strange eyes. she tried so hard with this child, to keep him safe, to keep him alive. she could not bear to lose this last remaining memory of her brother. she continued 'YOU ARE MY CHARGE AND YOU CANNOT GO!' then quieter 'you have never been from this place for even one night, you have no money to pay the dock master for this, you have never even been on a boat, you will spend your nights sick and your days will be hard. do you understand what you will be sacrificing?' she stared.
he stared back, though unlike her he did not stand straight, the couple inches were enough to make them the same height. he had many things to say, he had been on boats before though never one afloat, his fair would be paid by the captain, no, by roy, sea sickness he had heard plenty of but also ways to curb it, he had faith anything else would be taken care of by the other.
she understood the look and finally could hold it back any more, she let out a sob 'my baby, please' she took him in her bony arms and held him as she had not since he was small
he accepted her embrace, and secretly he craved it, he did not like hurting her so and he was indeed afraid to go. he found his voice then 'i love you auntie. you know that. but...' he took a moment running the words over his tongue before trying them out 'i love the sea, i need to go' he said nothing of capt- of roy.
when he left an hour or so later to head for the judith he did so with the love of his only family in his heart. he knew she would wait for him, as she waited for all of them. he hoped however not forever
