Default The Otaku Parliamentary Debates (Now Open to Topics)   #1
Based of of this thingy: http://www.anime-expo.org/programmin...entary-debate/

Parliamentary Debate is a strictly logical debate, with little to no prepared evidence (correct me if I am wrong) with 2 debaters on each side (that is the Proposition and the Opposition).
On this forum, if you choose to participate, you will debate a given topic for the amount of time represented below, however, instead actually saying your speech, you will be writing it. The other side, in return. Gains an extra two minutes to interpret and write out what they want to say, added on to their original two minutes. You should try to have at least 1 third party judge (that is, not on the pro or the con side.

Timing:
Topic given: (2 mins prep)
First Proposition Constructive Speech 7 minutes
(2 mins prep)
First Opposition Constructive Speech 8 minutes
(2 mins prep)
Second Proposition Constructive Speech 8 minutes
(2 mins prep)
Second Opposition Constructive Speech 8 minutes
(5 min prep to prepare)
Opposition Rebuttal 4 minutes
(3 mins prep)
Proposition Rebuttal 5 minutes

Advise for judging:
1) Don't Be bias. Debate is hardly about personal opinions and is always more about seeing both sides of an argument, both sides of a story.
2) There are many ways to judge a round. It's not always about who exactly "won" each argument.
3) Take time to think.

Now have fun with it!

On Topic Submissions
1)PM your ideas to me.
2)Make sure that the topic is debatable and general. (Two examples of Bad Topics: 1.Bleach should've ended a long time ago. <-Not general enough 2.Manga and Anime are Awesome. <- Not Debateable)

er, question, how do you keep to a time limit when one is posting? I mean, occasional 'net hiccups' everyone gets could easily send you over that limit.
I've gone to look for myself, if I should return before I get back keep me here.

There's a time marker on each post. People could easily keep track of themselves. The only thing that worries me, however, is the case of a server downage.

yeah, that was also something I was going to mention. Seems to me just a general debate would work as well, if one has a decent moderator for them.

Aye. I should also make a Mature Version, if this gets popular enough. Some of the Topics that I've seen include things like Hentai in their context.

this sounds interesting, where do I sign up for this. When there is someone to debate with, someone please send me a PM. I'll leap right over as soon as I possibly can.

A Parli-debate (Parliamentary debate) requires 4 people divided into two teams. When there's more people, you can PM me who your debating, what topic, and who you want to judge (which can be anyone as long as both teams agree).
EDIT: And if anyone shows up for this, I'll PM you about it.

This does sound HUGELY interesting. I love debating xP Even when I don't agree with my own point 8D I just like getting people to understand where I come from *nods*

Although I'm afraid that I may not know much about Anime and Manga to debate without research.. hmm.. unless we do stuff based on the acting and voices in anime and the general plots of a certain genre in manga..etc...

Those I can do =B

It won't be too hard. For example a topic could be something like "Anime is Racist!!!" One side agrees, and one side doesn't and people would then reference stuff such as (insert anime here) or (insert manga here) to support their point.
