Quiet Man Cometh
We're all mad here.

This is the first avatar site I've been on. What exactly is a dream avatar creator? Is it more or less what it sounds like: a system that allows people to make a pretend avatar using all available items?

Yep, completely right, Quiet. Although I tend to use it for OC cosplays and references a lot more.

It makes me think of things like the matrix or this other movie that I heard of where the government hooks everyone up to machines and everyone's mental image of themselves are themselves...in the virtual world...XD. But anyways, I'm kinda wondering how that would work, in a practical sense.

Yeah, I do too, but that's the only one I could think of atm. I suppose there's also Roliava, but that's so unorganized.

A dream avvie creator would be awesome! Though the layering would take a lot of time to get working right possibly. The dream avatar maker made by subetahq.com for the site subeta would be a really good example to base one off of since they have the same layering system. : )

An unlimited layering system like ours. From what I know, is actually easier to code than a limited layering system. Why no site has done unlimited before us? I don't know, I jumped on the idea when I thought it up xD

Last time I talked to coda about it he said yes. Its been awhile. But think of it like this...
limiting = assigning items a layer to work with only limiting = means items can only occupy layers they are designated. etc etc etc The Almighty Fen-God [8:25:15 PM] Galla: o3o ty for amusing my peen obsession Married to: Galla, Aurelia, Sei, Demonskid, Arrikanez and Ashy. Fen does remember what I said correctly, although there is one thing an unlimited layering system like ours has trouble with: While our kind of system can put a layer anywhere you want, it gets really clumsy to let an item have more than two layers. A system that doesn't allow customized layering can give items as many layers as necessary and has direct control over how things stack together, so you can make sure the result looks good even if it's more work on the developers to do it. It's a tradeoff.
Edit: For example, we have to take really special care with things like weapons -- they might not layer right with certain kinds of gauntlets or cloaks no matter how the user organizes things. A system that doesn't allow the user to customize it can chop the parts up to make sure it always works right. | ||||
