Default Hurricane Sandy   #1
For all those on the East coast or in a state that has already declared a state of Emergency, Please be safe.

All those who are in an area which will be hit by this "hybrid storm" as the newspapers are calling it. There has also been talk of people evacuating and how NJ, NY, and CT will have 7 to 10 Day Power Outages. Yet my dad still has to go into work/PC Richards or get fired?? Seriously, who is going to shop during a hurricane?

How are you preparing?
Have you bought enough food/water?
Did you get a generator?
Do you think this is overblown? (pun intended)
Will you miss electricity if your power goes out?
How will we manage to trick or treat this year??

I know for me, I will really miss being online. It is rather. . . .addicting.

Be safe all!

My family and I are very much prepared. When Irene hit, we did not expect to be out of power for a week. This year, we made sure to buy enough food, water, etc for a week for 6 people and 5 pets (a friend and her pets are staying with us).

We did not buy a generator, because our family is actually looking forward to losing power. We love camping, so this is kinda like camping but in our own house ^^;

I dunno what to do about school (I live on campus away from home) or Halloween. Hopefully, it'll be okay.

I'll be okay ^^ I've got my whole family and we have shatter-proof windows. We have plenty of flashlights, candles, and such. We'll all stay indoors for the whole storm.

Just for reference:

...Oh whoa, what, Pittsburgh's also gonna get hit? How did I not know about this? I guess it's time to really remember to bring my umbrella...

I've actually never been in a full-fledged hurricane before, except in Taiwan, but that's probably a bit different...(Hence "HAAAAHAHAHA what is a hurricane.")

Rebooting....

I'm in South-western Ontario, and we're gonna be getting hit pretty badly this time around compared to the other hurricane seasons.
We're gonna have possible flooding and power outages with winds getting up to 100km.
And torrential downpour for 3 days.
I know it's not as bad as some American's are getting it, but it's pretty crazy for these parts...
I feel more sorry for the provinces hugging oceans here.
My cousins are out West and in the East, and they're getting it badly.
:/

If we lose power for more than a few hours, I'm gonna go nuts.

edit: since we're showing maps. ><

The One and Only
I live really close to Philadelphia and I kind of live in a place prone to flooding so that's the only thing I'm worried about.
But I kind of live on a hills so I'm hoping it won't be that bad.
So far I've only put down the storm windows, checked the basement floor for things that might get wet, and moved the car up a higher place.
We already have lots of food and bread so I'm prepared

I don't think Carnegie's going to cancel classes for this, unfortunately, especially with what happened during Snowpocalypse/Snowmageddon a couple years back. (...Yes, CMU people have fun times naming things.)

I live in the southwest corner of Michigan so it shouldn't get to me. I have an aunt and uncle in Connecticut though, hope they're okay! Power loss isn't THAT big a deal though. Hope everyone makes it though fine = )

Oh it can be. Especially if you live in a colder climate and don't have a traditional fireplace. I've heard of power outages happening in areas where people have had to light fires in their garages to keep warm. If someone doesn't have manual back-ups for things like can openers and such it can be a big problem.

In my opinion, all disaster shelters should have fireplaces in them.

I haven't even owned an electric can opener in years. I sort of forget people still buy them, haha. I actually think handheld ones are easier to use.

And power loss can be a big deal in cold weather, that's true, but in this storm specifically that didn't seem to be much of an issue if people stayed inside.
