ps. I won't be adding picture books to my list anymore. It seems kind of silly.

Although, I did discover author/illustrator Ed Young who write Chinese folk tales. The first book I read was Lon Po Po which is a Chinese folk tale similar to Little Read-Riding Hood, but better in my opinion. I picked up The Cat From Hunger Mountain to see what it's like.

I'm hoping to get some extra diversity worked into my bibliography I'm making. I picked up two other picture books: Prince and Knight about a gay fairy tale prince, and Mommy's Khimar, a story about a young girl who wears and plays make believe with her mother's khimar, a garment similar to a hijab. There's another I'm waiting for called The Prince and the Dress Maker, in which the prince in a transvestite.

didn't Brian Froud do the creatures in Labyrinth too? also i think the baby is Brian Froud's kid too. XD

also, nothing wrong with kids/picture books, unless you'd rather just not read any more. =)

Well, it's hardly reading when it only takes a few minutes to go through the book.

Taking the opportunity to finally read Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. I've seen the film a pile of times, but have never read the book.

And yes, Brian Froud did both movies and Toby was his kid.

Google destroys good conversations in my opinion. Or rather, it doesn't help when someone's response changes from "I'm not sure" to "google it." Feels kind of rude sometimes, really.

And it's onto the diversity books! Mommy's Khimar and Prince & Knight today.

And I believe I have read Mrs. Frisby but remember very little of it.

Ugh! That's been sitting on my shelf for many years now. Of course, now it's in wrapping paper and I'm not sure which one it is, exactly. My plan to only read my already purchased books has a kink in it now that I'm doing so much reading for school, and buying books again for my projects.

I also get 20% off if I call the "school supplies" which they technically are. I'll be reading "Puddle Pug" for my storytime project. I'm thinking about maybe running a theme and picking up other stuff that relates to pigs, pugs, or puddles. I'm planning on singing "5 Speckled Frogs" and hoping that works out. Need a little more material though. Nat Geo even has a book called "Piglets VS. Pugs" but it doesn't seem very read-aloud friendly.

Totally is!

The 20% thing was also on books purchased for classrooms, which is nice. I think that's also in part because of lot of teachers will furnish their classrooms from their own pockets.

I think I'm going to with a young batch of kids. I need another book for the storytime though, since mine is pretty short, or I can write some poems about a pug. I did some looking around and it seems that Pigs and Pugs go together a lot. There's a counting book I wanted to get, but it's sold out at my usual store: "Pugs in a Bug." It has other breeds of dogs in other vehicles as well. I make a point of collecting dog books if they're good. I might start writing the odd thing once I figure out how picture books get made.

So I picked up The Prince and the Dressmaker and it turns out it's a graphic novel. It's YA so out of my reading range for my course but I leafed through it and it seems like it's a pretty good book. Of course the focal point is that the prince is a transvestite and no one knows about it except for the seamstress that works for him. However, the seamstress wants her own career as well and can't make it work while working for the the prince, so the issue of conflicts in a friendship comes up, and of course there are the thoughts and concerns of the general crowd when it finally comes out. It feels like there's a lot put into the story to think about.

I'm going to have to read faster if I want to get through all of these books before the library wants them back. I expect holds to start showing up as other people start work on this assignment. I jumped on it early, and now apparently some people are saying that it's too long (30 books). I've already done half of it. Maybe I can trade the complete 30 books on this assignment for a shorter time frame for storytime. I'm a little concerned about my stamina. I attempted two run throughs of "Shake Your Sillies Out" and I barely made it.

I think it's time to head to the used book store and see what I can pick up to save some anxiety. Already have a copy of Rats of NIMH waiting for me. I've decided I want to buy it. Children's collection and all. ;)

:D I love graphic novels but haven't had the honor of reading many. :( only two or three..

though it's my dream in the future to actually get to publish a couple of graphic novels. Q.Q *makes fist* and share a little horror tale or sci-fi adventure with you all.~+

I have Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH too! xD haha, and though I never read it, I too have seen the Don Bluth animated movie! It's great. :]

The film and book are fairly different in events but the characters are all there. I quite like it.

Now I need to pick my next book.

I vaguely remember reading it in grade school and noticing all the differences from the film to the book. But mostly I remember always getting caught off guard when it was my turn to read aloud because I was always reading ahead.
