Default Alice: Madness Returns   #1
I've been playing through American McGee's Alice for the last, oh... Seven hours or so, trying to get through the whole thing in preparation for the sequel coming out on the 14th. I've never actually beaten the game, but I've been a fan of the first two or three levels since I was 11 years old. xD

Is anyone else a fan? Excited for the new game? Rave about it here! =3

Not familiar with the game. Every time I see something called "Alice" I assume it's related somehow to Alice and Wonderland. Does it take from that? (I've encountered numerous derivates and spinoffs) or is it something else? What sort of game is it?

Yeah, that's why it's referred to as "American McGee's Alice," so as not to be confused with all of the other Alice things floating around out there. It's a PC game from 2000 - one of the darkest twists on the original stories. I think it's just barely more popular than cult status. I like it alot because, unlike most Alice-based things, it stays the truest to the books and keeps the essence of dreamlike insanity while still being original. "Madness Returns" is going to be for PC as well as most consoles, so I can't wait!! x3

Cool! PC is handy for me since I lack the newer consoles besides the Wii.

I was asking if it was in general based on Alice and Wonderland just to calarify really. After all, there's nothing inherantly indicative about "Alice" that means it must refer to a piece of classic literature. I was just wondering.

Is it an RPG style game? First person type? Party based? Shooter?

It's a third-person action game that uses the Quake III engine, not really shooter unless you count the cards that she uses as projectiles. =P

More game style than mechanics, I'm thinking. If the point is to run around and wing cards at people on sight to little other purpose, than yeah, shooter qualifies. :D

Questy type game? Look and poke at things until stuff happens type game? Try not to get killed by savage teacups with bloody rabbit fur caught between the chips that look suspiciously like teeth? Maybe I should stop now...

Yeah, if you search for "cheshire cat" in google images he pops up quite frequently. And damn, why wasn't my school cool enough to study Alice in Wonderland? ;;

I'm sad that I'm the only dork who's excited for this game. xD

Well, I'm curious and that's kind of excited. :).

It was a university course on children's fantasy literature and we were looking at the various incarnations the work has spawned and the different artistic representations of the characters.

Hey, don't look at me. I was here the whole time :P

I have also not finished the first game ;). I wonder if that will make much of a difference for the second game.

Pokey! And I appreciate that, Quiet. Who knows, maybe I can make converts out of you. =o *plots* The second game is a sequel of the first, so... yeah. You might need to know the story. Although, the first game is pretty much Alice going crazy after her entire family dies in a fire, and working through her insanity in the "Wonderland" of her mind. I assume there's a happy ending, since she's alive at the beginning of the second game.
