Slow cooker/Crock pot stuff is the best.

It isn't going to burn really, just overcook a lot at worst.

Well, our troop had a tradition that Eagle Scouts would inevitably catch food on fire... a portable (5 year old) stove I used leaked so much fluid, that a fire burned in the stove for 15 minutes AFTER I removed the fuel source.

A friend of mine caught a can of popcorn on fire (1 foot high) and nearly burned down the dining fly...

Problem to the Solution
Default   #21
When I was younger, I loved both Spaghetti O's and Beef Stew. One day I reasoned that since I loved both, they would perhaps be even better once combined. ...Needless to say, it was not. However, this is about cooking.

One day I am making spaghetti. I like to prepare my sauce first, add in all the herbs and spices and all that and let it simmer while my noodles are cooking. Anyway, I prepare my sauce and put it off to simmer while I get the noodles ready. However, I realize that I am out of noodles. This is a problem. So, I start searching the pantry.

What I do find is ramen.

Yes. I did attempt it. This soggy, maggoty-like mass of tentacled noodles does not particularly jive with the sauce. It takes on this sticky like mass that you perhaps encounter in the cafeteria of a middle school, the kind of meal that you tell your parents about but they think you're just exaggerating. Long story short, it was incredibly awful and the dog would not take a second bite. Lesson learned, check ingredients first.

@Espy: Yes, yes it was.

Yes...
Was a Senior Patrol Leader (and acting SPL due to those after me leaving the troop after spring)...and where I learned leatherworking...and basic metalworking (gods, I want to get back to that!)...and basic Archaeology...and CPR...

Much of what I've done is tied to Scouting.

I've done Ramen Spaghetti before, and thought it was okay. >w<'

I just remembered another one of my fails. It was my first time cooking chicken fingers. I made them with Ritz cracker crumbs, dipped 'em in egg, rolled in crumbs and then fried them... The only thing was, it was my first time frying anything not in a deep fryer, so I had my oil too hot... >.> Needless to say, my hubby is a super trooper and ate somewhat burnt chicken fingers with me.

Huh. I used Ramen Noodles with Spaghetti before and it seemed to work okay. Given, I used none of the powder.

I have multiple Dutch Oven Fails...but when you use coals and a pit to cook chocolate cake in 15F weather, you may mess it up once or twice. (And I do not know how that could work in below 0 weather)

COOKIES!!! *Latches onto Faux*

Totally didn't see the cookie post... OuO

I can has thin mints?? *Homer Simpson drool face*

And yes, the seasoning packet with spaghetti sauce is a no go for me... XP Bleck.

How exactly does a Dutch Oven work? I have an idea of what it is (I'm too lazy to google it right now, ha) but the only thing that really comes to mind when I hear Dutch Oven is the horrible thing certain significant others have done (and sometimes do). DX

Well, first you dig a hole. Then you have essentially an iron pot with a lid. You make batter/meat (meat not recommended) and put it in the pot to bake/cook like an oven. Then you light coals on fire (or setup a fire) and put the heat source both in the hole (gods, that sounds so wrong...I'm terrible at describing this) and on top of the Dutch oven. Wait, and use a tool to lift the lid to check on it. Bake, and eat.

...Gods, I did terribly at describing it.

Not really. Sounds like it'd be a tough way to cook, but kinda fun at the same time. I think I might have to look into this. *nod nod*

So what all have you cooked in it?
