Internet Problems | #1 | ||
Okay all wired computers are fine btw.
But my laptop, ever since the power went out one day, has been getting less signal, and in the evenings/nights, the internet will go out altogether, but if I leave it alone, it will come back (and go out again and come back again etc). What would be causing this? Note: I do not know if it is just my laptop or all wireless, like PS3 or my iPod

Find out if it affects other devices. That's an important troubleshooting step.

I live in a house, and it doesn't seem to be affecting anything else (though my mom did say one night she had the same problem with her laptop)
I deleted the connection and readded it, since then it hasn't disconnected... -has probably just jinxed self- though sometimes it acts like it's cutting off, but it just goes slow instead .-. (My mother doesn't use her laptop everyday so I can't know if it's been messing up since) Random: Also when I see those gold grants from posts...I keep freaking out and think it's a glitch...until I remember it isn't XD Edit: Also, it randomly will ask for an authentication key, putting in the password will not get it to reconnect. Ever. Though restarting works.

Question: Does anyone know how to see what kernel I ahve for linux?
At least then I can try to see if it's a driver problem or not.

You are connecting through wi-fi right? Well maybe you are further away from the modem when you have the problems?

Issue the command "uname -a" and it'll give you the kernel information.

No, I do not move my laptop. It stays in one spot constantly. And I am within 10-15 feet of the modem. Though there is a wall or two in the way.
I did find out the kernel, but then the driver download wouldn't work D: I still have the problem, it just hasn't been as bad since I did few things.
