Grave of the Fireflies.
It made me laugh.
But also wanted to cry so bad.
;_; It's a real tearjerker, and very well animated.

Don't Go Into The Light
Another Earth. I liked the atmosphere and that it wasn't a hard sci-fi. But did not like the characters or storyline. The ending was mostly obvious. The relationship between the main characters lacked chemistry. The camera movements and awkward zooming kept taking me out of the movie and making me aware of the director and production crew.

Klaus. Hmm, wow. I don't have the slightest clue as to how this was so well received or acquired any awards. The story was incredibly ordinary with annoying characters. The way it tried to explain the origin of certain Christmas traditions felt contrived. Way too many action sequences, if you can call them that. None of them contributed anything, really. The use of the score was heavy handed. A lot of moments didn't need overly dramatic orchestral music. Or even the sappy singing not only seemed ill fitting with the overall style, it was just really cheesy.

The Goldfinch. At first I was intrigued. But as the events gradually unfolded, my interest gradually waned. The direction felt heavy handed? Like a lot of the dialogue had this overly rehearsed feel to it and the actors seemed all too cautious of how they moved around in a scene. Basically, the dialogue just didn't seem natural. Also, it had my big pet peeve of most of the film relying on coincidence for the plot to move along. The younger characters were far too wise for them to seem real in any way.

Jojo Rabbit. I liked some of the humor. But the characters didn't seem fully fleshed out due to how much focus was on saying or doing something funny. And I just don't think abuse should be framed as something to laugh at in any sort of way. Like the captain getting kicked in his privates.

Ip Man.
It was pretty good. :] Nice movie about the legend who taught a legend.
Also wing chun is super badass. 8o It's like defensive in nature and lightning quick! Had to watch some Bruce Lee clips after to see some of his master's style in action + all the crazy stuff he did, like light matches thrown at him with his num-chuk skills! 8D

Imitation of Life,

Both versions.
I've seen them both before, but the second one makes me cry.

Knives Out. Not sure what the hype was about. The characters and mystery didn't appeal to me. And Daniel Craig's character just seemed too much of a generic southern guy with a bad accent and didn't really contribute much or seem that clever in the end. So not sure why others are hoping for a franchise with him playing the same character solving other mysteries. And the truth telling/lying element just seemed like too much of a convenient plot device.

I liked that it had some campiness without going overboard with it.

The Artist (2011).
<:] A simple movie. Soundtrack is delightful, and my favorite part of course.
I still like La La Land better, but that was a musical. This was a silent film. <X} Can't even COMPARE!

Call Me by Your Name. I liked the landscape and atmosphere. But the characters didn't really intrigue me, aside from the father. I also liked the character exploration.

I mostly watched this because I've been enjoying We Are Who We Are, which is a series by the same director. The character dynamic is more complex and I find the storylines more interesting with the series. But their styles are quite similar.

Snap!
In the theater I saw Free Guy. It was pretty cute, something I might watch again on a rainy day.

I'm about halfway through 9 now, one of my favorite movies. Tim Burton is easily one of my favorite creators. Love that he shares his imagination.
