Edmund hung back a little bit from the main fight as he watched. He had wounded the man with the shield, now it was time to hurt the man in black. Wounding the man in black would require patience and careful watching because the man in black did not fight like Edmund fought. Taking the man in black by surprise was probably his best option as he was both slower and less flexable then the other. Plus, right now the man in black seemed rather focaused on the man with the shield.
