It's not the loss, it's the *additions* they made to the story, their own inventions that annoy me, hence my worry over this new movie. :p
But then, Tolkien himself thought the series was unfilmable.
Cold silence has a tendency
to atrophy any sense of compassion
between supposed lovers.
Between supposed brothers.
