It seemed to have been a good hour before Jack got up, letting his arm go limp to minimize the pain. The strength of the fire in the distance had not changed, as he walked on further. He couldn't avoid seeing the corpses in their seats, but even as he knew this he couldn't help but nearly gag every other time he saw one.
He wasn't sure where the scream from before came from and hoped that he wasn't walking in that direction, even if it was a man in need. By now, Jack thought that he would be dead, and his corpse only just rotting. He didn't know how much time had passed. Wandering on, he looked around to see who was still alive and figure out what had happened, now that he didn't feel as though there were any immediate dangers to him.
His fear was realized when he saw that mostly everyone was dead. Whether they were spewed out in the ocean or impaled or made victims of other sorts of unfortunate ends, nearly everyone was dead. He was about to cry as nearly tripped over himself, choking on the smoke and sand from when he tripped.
