[Rem]

Rem sighed, rubbing the back of his head as he looked over the mess of boxes that plagued the living room of his new home. What a mess, and he still had all the furniture to drag into the house out of the truck. This was going to be an exhausting day. But despite that nothing lowered his spirit, he was too happy to finally be here. His own house, for the first time! No more noisy apartments with noisy, nosy neighbors. No more broken car windows or police sirens. He glanced out the window, grinning at the scenes of suburbia that surrounded him. He almost didn't know if he could get used to such tranquility, he'd never had it before. Well, he'd certainly learn, he decided, grabbing a few boxes and heading towards the basement stairs to set them away. A new start...a fresh start, was just what he needed.

He tromped down the basement stairs, noting that they were in vast need of repair; the whole place was a fixer-upper to be honest but he'd gotten it for a song, so he wasn't complaining. He could do the work anyway, he'd been a part-time contractor before he got his bartending gig. His boots hit the concrete floor with a click and he flicked the light, the dusty naked bulb hanging in the center of the room weakly flickering on. He started to walk to the corner to set down the boxes when he noticed a door set into the wall underneath the stairs and blinked, frowning. A door there...? He didn't remember that when he toured the house. Had he missed it somehow...?

Curiously, he walked over to the door and tried the knob, but it was locked. His frown deepened and he tugged at it a few times, but it was secure. Oh well...he could come back later and work with it. No big deal. He turned around and pulled a box cutter out of his pocket and set to work opening the boxes he'd put down there, wanting to unpack a few things before he brought the furniture in.
