Apparently, you don't have to pay to play online on the PS3.
In the long run, these are things you should think about :
PS3- You don't have to pay to play online.
- Trophies don't sound all that great.
- It has more RPG games than the xbox 360- BUT it is NOT backwards compatible with PS2/1 games. (I have a PS2 and I'm more than happy with it)
- The PS3 online system was hacked recently. Many users had their information stolen and, quite possibly, their identities altogether.
- The PS3 was meant to last longer as a stand alone system- so it will be a while before another PS is made.
Xbox360- You have to pay to play online.
- Achievements seem more personally fulfilling than trophies.
- The xbox360 has a large range of games- more games than the PS3 has. The xbox30 is also backwards compatible.
- Since XboxLive is run by Microsoft, the only person who could hack them would be... Bill Gates.
- The Xbox 360 will have difficulty running certain games- newer games- that will be coming out.
- There is a NEW xbox coming out that will surpass the running capabilities of the PS3.
Basically
If you DO NOT plan to use your information to buy stuff off of the system and you only want to play some under-appreciated RPGS, get the PS3.
If you DO plan to buy merchandise off of the system and it's provider, go Xbox360 all the way. Plus, with the new system coming out, yu could always buy a crummy xbox360 and just mess with it to see if you like it instead of wasting monies on a PS3 and, possibly, figuring out you don't like it much.
