I can't remember if I've already done this quote but: "It was not art for art's sake but art for the sake of sanity." 2001: A Space Odyssey (possibly misquoted from my memory)

Ah I can still remember reading it my freshman year during Gym Class. If memory serves (this is where my memory gets hazy) those words were written by the author when the characters enter a space station and note all the art where the station design itself is utilitarian.
