As far as sprouting a new heart tree, dryads of old use to grow whole forests of these trees, they were normally the strongest of the area and created a network to better protect the groves. But this was lost, simply taking a seed now a dryad could little to nothing, planting it did not make the seed any different from any other seedling.

Though on the same note a fairy with such a seed did have the upper hand, in more ways then one. Destroying the tree he was bound to they could very easily control his every movement with that one seed, given they knew how to do so.
