If disney discovered legions of people OTHER then the target demographic loving there work they would be happy, but Lauren and her crew have actually listened and worked with the fans. Nearly every character has been given a name. Even characters with no lines, and characters that only exist in the background. They've been given relationships, and friends and family, personalities... The whole nine yards. And the creators have stated that it's good enough for them that it should just be considered canon.
