I'm breaking up this one-on-one fest! O:<
My desk is a bookshelf/computer workspace mix, so most of my books and folders –both reading, school, and art related– are stored in the book space where my legs rest next to. I haven't really paid much attention to the books stored on the right recently, but I go through the items stored on the left at least two to three times a week. On top of my desk, there's just random notebooks, reading books, magazines and papers... a globe too, which I haven't used in a while, but do use when I'm reading or writing about a specific country/area of the world.
I don't really use my desk as workplace sadly. It's in an inconvenient place I feel, plus there isn't a lot of lighting in the area unless it's daytime and all of my shades are open. Usually, if I want to do anything specific without the computer, I'll just take whatever supplies I need from wherever they may be and navigate to my futon or to the couches in the living room. (Or steal the laptop from the dining room table and navigate to one of those areas. Or both. :p)
