Alexander tried to talk, but all that came out was muffled whines and dog like sounds. He faced the facts, he couldn't talk. So he wouldn't be able to greet people at the ball. Which might be a bit of an advantage. He did a high pitched voice, but you could easily tell that his voice was that of a male.
