are you using online job listers to look? I had luck when I was out of work with snagajob.com. I don't know if it's local to you, but jobbing.com helps as well...uhm...trying to think of others....

Also, seasonal hiring will start...well...now, so even if it's temporary there should be a lot more on the market soon! Go to places that get a lot of seasonal shoppers, or a boost in sales around the end of year. Also, Halloween stores should be opening, again, seasonal, but it's something while you still look.
