well...that sensation never really goes away. I've been out of my parents home since I was 17, living on my own with no one to say anything and I STILL jump when I hear 'heavy' footsteps on the stairs and feel the intense need to put things away. Sadly, we get conditioned for certain responses(like dogs, hi pavlov) and they're hard to break off. Just because you know it doesn't mean you've been conditioned to it yet :)
