He, instead, holds his hand up and a dome like invisible shield forms that the water is dripping down. "I've found out that I suck using wands." It's because he's used to doing what the wand does for him...which causes the magic to be too focused and not have any affect. It's like...sending a really small bullet out of a gun...it's concentrated, but small so it is more likely to miss/fail.
