I know a few people who might disagree with you there Ashy. Never watched full John Wayne movie but he does seem to be one of the types that a better icon than an actor. He's so quintisentially Western that it's hard to think of a new man for the role, even if the acting would be better. ;)
I've seen a few Eastwood westerns, and while I like the guy, I have no need to see remakes of the old movies.
I can't imagine a
Casablanca
remake really, maybe because it's a film that's been references and parodied so much that it could almost be laughable. I actually had to constantly remind myself the first time that it was the original source for what came off to me as cliche after cliche.
A lot of older movies I'd rather not see remade unless I think they would benefit from new technology and effects. There's a lot of character in some of the older films that might not surivive transitions. I'd rather see remakes of films that had good concepts but may not have been executed as well as they could have been, for whatever reason.
