But the lore-lover in me feels like: if you're going to change the way something works, fine. If she wanted her vampires to sparkle, fine. But do your research first, and admit that you changed it, and talk about why you did...even if your reason is just "because I wanted to". She was surprised it was different. That's the part that gets to me xD

Believe me, I've read a lot of stuff about her reasonings behind making her vampires different, and she did say "they're different because I wanted them to be different." I don't know who told you that the was "surprised" to find out that they were different from regular vampires, but they weren't telling the truth...
