overheating laptops: I think that pretty much all laptops have the vents and air circulation gaps on the bottom because it's the only place with sufficient free surface area to put holes. My vent crawls up the back by the hinges a little bit but the air is almost always warmer than I would like unless I have it elevated at least 1 inch and free of any obstruction beneath the vents. I never use it on a soft surface either. Hard only.
