Actually, as long as the holes are small enough relative to the surface area of the wing it'll still work -- not as efficiently, of course, but aerodynamic effects still function. A pocket of air pressure forms over each hole because physics would try to force a whole wingful of air through those holes but air is too viscous to slip through so easily; once that pocket forms, the rest of the wingbeat will work more or less as normal.
