I'll echo everything that's been said above, especially Quiet's post, as it pretty much sums up my experience with this site to a T. Honestly, this is the nicest community I've ever been a part of, and I've been part of a fair few.

I had a hard time getting started here, too, and felt the same way as you looking around at all the lengthy topics, but it's only been a month and I feel completely comfortable as part of the community, now. You just have to give it time, and try to post when you can. People can't befriend you if they don't know you. ;)

Also, I don't know if it's your thing, but I'm in the process of starting up a roleplay at the moment, and you're more than welcome to join in there if you want to. :)
