It's hard for me to pin down aspects of what I think of as a "favorite game" since I'm all over the place. I've found that the games with some of the best options in terms of gameplay usually don't have the same kind of freedom that would be nice, as well as the opposite. For instance, I really liked Grandia's battle system because it had a lot of strategy involved, but it was pretty linear gameplay. It DID however have somewhat customizable skills, in that the more you used a particular weapon or magic, the more skills you could use with them. Of course not every character could use every weapon either.
