I know it sounds weird, but my favorite books of all time are the His Dark Materials books by Philip Pullman.

They're...kids books, but they're ridiculously deep.

I mean, the figure represented as God DIES.
Pullman was kind of miffed that nobody cared that he had killed God in his book.
